Hi folks, I'm relatively new to this board and am looking for some help. I have around $2000 to spend on a welder. I am looking at the Red 255, Blue 251, and Yellow 250+.What about the Esab 260? I wouldn't mind being able to stick and tig with the same machine -- or would I be wasting money on a machine that can't do anything well? I would love the Lincoln powermig 300 but can't shovel that much money into this hobby -- Yet.Thanks
Reply:Hey FubecaIve got one of the older 'schoolbuses' (multimaster 260) with the gray face.for a MIG, or just a DC stick, it does fine. I was disappointed with the TIG function, though. Mines a scratch only. I think someone on this board told me that the newer ones are lift arc. (Scott V??)cant say for sure. Anyway, as for the MIG side, I think its as good, or better, than the other two. I really like the drive system (its a 4 roll sys, where i think the 255 and the 251 are a 2 roll setup)But if I were to start over, id buy a separate machine for each process. In fact, im selling the ESAB in favor of a mig only machine, or a feeder for the XMT i bought.Shane |
