I actually remembered to take pictures today. I went back home to dads shop and had a nice relaxing day just puttering around building a few things and improving on another. Here are some pics. The first set are drift punches i made for a co-worker. Made the handles out of recycled fifthwheel pins. I also punched his initals into the bottom. These are nicer than the ones I made years ago. Welded with my Lincoln 180T mig with .035 S-6 with 75/25 gas. Setting E-4.5. Attached ImagesNothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:Here is a bolt I turned down into a punch Attached ImagesNothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:And I modified my little press brake. I made it years ago but it needed guides with springs and a new bottom die. This will make it user friendly. Attached ImagesNothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:Oh ya I also repaired the guard off another co workers air cut off tool, Ill have to remember to take a pic of that before I give it backNothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:Cool punch! I would usually be sending off an old rusty bolt like that to the scrap yard. How do those bolts end up doing after some use? where they a special grade or type of steel? I couldn't imagine the cheap foreign steel in your average grade 5 bolts would hold up very well for that application.
Reply:The bolt was grade 8, so far its been holding up well. I welded a handle on it too and I use it for knocking the centers out of pop rivets before drilling them out. I also made another punch, I drilled out the center of one of those fifth wheel pins and tapped 1/2" threads into it. Then I turned down 1/2" bolts to different sizes of punches. So now I can thread in the size of punch I want and really hammer on it. Ill take pics when i go back to work.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up. |
