Flame Away! I need the input.Had electrician over today finally to run conduit and install 230 service to the garage. So I dinked around for a little bit after with the welder. First time welding. My first two beads ever#1 looks like i smeared bubblegum in it.[img][/img]#2 looks better I think but I am getting a little, porosity, I think is the proper term to call it?

Reply:Mate, if they're you first welds ever then you're doing pretty well. Yes that is porosity - try and aim for a steady travel speed and keep a short arc length. Porosity often comes from your arc flaring out too much when the rod is too far away. Fillet welds are pretty tricky to master so this is a good effort. Cheers - Mick

Reply:If those are your first welds ever, well you are doing great! it seems rare that new posters here do as well. For welding heavy metal, it's a good start. Not perfect of course, but a good start.Ken |
