5x6 jet swivel head for 500 bucks?

just was offered a jet swivel head bandsaw for five hundred buck,looks in used but good shape, anyone use these often, howdya likem?face all times with a positive mental attitude,then and only then will you have done your best.
Reply:Yes. Daily, for 10 yrs. Paid 500 for mine new.  I did several tweeks to get accurate cuts.  (shim vise, grind the guide assembly, and grind guide adjusting arms) Put a new motor on last yr. The jet motor finally went out after 10yrs.  The jet motor is over rated, the new motor makes the saw run and cut better than ever, literally.  Aluminum is frustrating to cut with the original motor.Replaced the worm gear this year. Again 10 yrs old and run daily, not bad. We have a manufacture local, so that is incentive to hang on to the saw.  The swivel head is great.  I think it the measuring stick as to how much you want to pay.  The saw is just any other 5x6.  Good quality blade is a must.  .025" min thickness.

Reply:I've heard a lot of bad things about Jet's motors on those small band saws. Reply:Looks like they're about $850 new off ebay. It does have a 1/2HP motor as compared to northerns 1/3HP. If you could get it for $300 I would say do that, maybe $400. Otherwise it's up to you. I've never used or even seen in person the Northern brand one but it looks to be about the same and has decent reviews plus a 1yr warranty. I have the South Bend version of this saw and I love it. Reply:Different HP motors, better casters, more quality control (less likely to have an issue), blade wheel bearings vs bushings, some come with a bi-metal blade others with carbon steel, etc...
