Hey All, This is what i did this last couple of nights in the shop. The socket was done a couple of months ago. It takes a 1-1/4 socket  rifle drilled the nut in the lath to allow for a long stud to pass through the socket. The socket is used to remove and replace the rocker arm shafts on this Cooper Bessemer engine V-16 4500 hp.320rpms. When the engine was diss. it was discovered that the push rod ends were loose in the push rods. Cleaned the tubes and ends and tack welded the ends on.The tubes are in the next series of pics. Thanks to Zap leaned on him for advice on what to use for a fill rod 309 SS.Iam not for sure on the type of material used for the push rods. 130-150 amps floating the pedal Attached ImagesLast edited by power; 12-14-2012 at 10:39 PM.

Reply:The pics of push rods 3 ft long 32 total and 192 short welds made a jig to hold the rod flat and used a long clamp to insure the ends stayed tight in the rods. Attached Images

Reply:In the third pic, what are the pipes that are sticking up and looks like a zerk fitting on the end of them, in the middle at each valve spring??Same pic, is that some kind of compression release to the right side of each cylinder? It was hard to really tell the size of things until the pic of you holding the push rod end.......WOW!!Great pics thanks!miller... 225g, s32p, 250x, 304, 12vs, MSW41     victor o/a thermal dynamics cutmaster 50 lenco panel spotter        hobart hf-boxG3 Farms.....raising cattle, hay, kids and hell, ...oh yeah I'm a fire sprinkler contractor by trade.

Reply:Originally Posted by powerThanks Yes each valve intake or exhaust have their own grease zerk to grease the valve stems one shot every 1000hrs it takes a special high temp grease can not recall the name right now Yes each cylinder has their own compression release for rotating the engine for repairs such as setting the valves or fuel injectors to allow for fine crank movement when degress is important and exactly what Bistineau said before along with yes a very hot job. I will post some more pics the size of things to say the whole engine is equal to a passanger bus.
Reply:Great job.  Always happy to see the ingenuity of the people on this site - making the tools to make the repair! The mfgr went thru significant trouble and expense to make those short ends.  If they will work just fine with fixed ends, (as you did by welding) why would they go thru the trouble?  I'm just curious because I have run into a few repair situations where I was afraid to make a change because I didn't understand exactly why things were the way they were.
Reply:Good work Power! Really cool stuff, and nice tig work!I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:I know im getting off welding and metal work on this part of the forum..if it is a issue maybe Zap or someone can move it.Thanks..I do not have any pics of the Cooper Bessemer on my card but will get some of it complete. The Enterprise Engine is very similar in physical size to the Cooper. The one pic is of the cylinder head with the valves out and a can of brake kleen to get a size comparrison, you can see the blow down valve on the left side of the head and where the injector goes in the middle. Here are some more pics enjoy. Reply:Originally Posted by BistineauWhen you take some more pix, include something to give some scale to size. Such as a soda can, welding hood, hand or anything that everyone would know the approximate size of for comparison purposes.I operated/maintained ALCO 251 D model V-16, V-8 diesels while in the US Navy years ago. They had the same type of blow-down valves on them. That's how I knew what they are and their purposes. Been there done that.
Reply:awesome pics and repair!! it seems machinery like this is becoming rare these days. even rarer are qualified craftsmen who can maintain it.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla

Reply:Wicked pictures. I worked on some of the 850HP cat diesels that were converted to natural gas when I was with the gas utility company. I thought they were pretty massive at the time. That engine of yours dwarfs those!
Reply:I worked at a Natural Gas Compression plant recently. They had 6 HUGE 55yr old engines that burned NG, and attached to their connecting rods where more pistons that actually compressed the NG. The turbos on these things were bigger than my service truck! 750 psi, three lines, one to Boston, one to Maine and I didnt catch where the third one went to. I was told each engine produced over 40,000 lbs of tq. I was also not allowed to get any pics... It was some of the cooler stuff Ive seen in my young life.Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120
