A while back the neighbor next door to where I have my "shop" asked if I'd weld up the bracket he ripped off his plow mount last year. With snow in the forecast, I tried to get in touch with him Thursday, and he called me back yesterday morning and said he'd be at the house all day and he'd appreciate it if I got the chance. My guess is he lost the pin on the passenger side and the torque tore apart the drivers side. Fab'ed up a new plate since the old one was torn up too bad to get reused. Also heated and bent back the other side where it had gotten all bent out of shape and tacked the corners better so this one wouldn't tear out either. Cut off the old mount with the OA torch. Welded up with my MM185 .035 wire, 75/25 gas tap 5 wire speed about 58. The piece was beveled more than the one pict shows when I was doing rough fit up, but the final fit up pict didn't turn out well. Welds aren't quite as nice as I'd have liked them since It was almost impossible to really see the weld while running the bead. I ran a 2nd bead over the one shown to add a bit more reinforcement to the weld area since the V ate up some of the bead from the 1st pass. The weld on the back of the angle is to deal with some over grinding. I could barely get the grinder in the area and it took a bit to get the bottom of the angle ground out for good prep. Reply:Nice Fillets DSW I don't think that would come apart any time soon, I've see quite a few plow repairs on here lately is the snow still falling there??
Reply:Any chance a you can ad a gusset or 2. not sure how the plow bolts up?
Reply:He also needed the latch plates on the "tailgate" rewelded. I'm not happy with the design, but it will get him by for right now. Later I'll get some angle and fab up some braces for these to keep the fatigue from breaking them again. I also have to weld up a couple of the side latches on teh stake sides and put a new floor in the tool box on the passenger side. Those could wait until later as I need to get materials anyways. Again used my MM185 with .035 wire and 75/25. Settings about 2-3 wire speed about 35-45. The wind was not my friend as the day progressed to about this point. I had to grind out one weld I didn't like when it got gusty all of a sudden in the middle of the weld.He also wants me to see if I can't build a frame around his small landscape trailer so he can use it for storage on site, sort of like a box trailer. I told him I won't alter the existing design, only add the framing so he can plywood the roof and side walls. I've got mixed feelings on this. He's got another trailer that was wrecked he wants to cut up for materials to save money. Sort of half azzed in my opinion, and I doubt he'll really save any money. I'm also a bit concerned that with the steel and plywood, he won't have much payload left on the small trailer. I need to get a better look at both trailers to see what's really going to be involved. The good thing is I could do it in Feb/March when things are slow and put a few bucks in my pocket... we'll see about all of this. Scruples and standards suck. Reply:You've got standards DSW, You like to see a good job done and that can be difficult when the customer insists on using crap material and scrap to try and make a decent job

Reply:Way to go Doug..Good thing I am not the only one that has to do this crap..I did not have my camera yesterday but remember this truck?http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...ighlight=HitchAnd by the way the hitch is still in service to this day so if you read the thread they can all bite me..Anyway same truck..The driver SNAPPED the trip edge assy RIGHT OFF the 9 foot Fisher MM2 blade..I don't know what he hit but...I did the repair over Landrys Enterprises yesterday AM..Took 4 Hrs.Had to take a torch and get rid of what was left of every pin mounting point..all 8 of them..Did the best I could with it still on the truck..Got all that out of the way then cut (8) 7/8" long pieces out of 3/4 ID 1/4" wall tubing..Took the trip edge complete with cutting edge out of the back of the truck and took off the springs and the cutting edge..Put the pins and the tubing on the trip edge..Raised up the edge to "Where It Goes" with 2 floor jacks and tacked the tubing on the two ends in the blade "Cutouts"..You know what I am referring to..Then tacked the middle..Let the jacks down..Checked for the proper "Swing" and then had at it with the welder..They have a MIG.... BIG red thing with gas..Next time and there will be another I'll take pics..Welded all the tubing up as best I could and that was that. They finished it up by re-installing the spring assy and then the cutting edge..Upon closer inspection I think they added the cutting edge AFTER the blade wore out the trip mounts to a dangerous condition without a edge because those do not come standard with any Fisher blade...There is NOTHING like the smell of burning powder coat coating..I can still smell it..Anything to do with used plow stuff and repairs really suck BUT not everyone is willing to do this either.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Here y'all are trying to work on snowplows and I am trying to get my lawnmower running to cut some grass and shred some leaves, I think it is a problem in the seat switch though, charging the battery now to eliminate that as a problem. Plows wont be used around here till time for spring planting. Hope y'all are enjoying the white mess y'all have up there.
Reply:Good job, Doug!! I think some of those plow drivers think they're running a D-8. 'course in this case he just dropped a pin. I think a bolt w/ a self locking nut would be better instead of pins that can lose the clip and come out. Reply:Nice job DSW! Its good to see you posting some projects. How did you make the holes, annular?"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:3/4" twist bit. I don't have many annular cutters yet. I may end up getting a few this spring though. I have a 35' long 20" deep wide flange my buddy salvaged from a demo job. His wife is looking to do an addition over the garage and my plan is to use the beam and thru bolt 2x's to both sides so I can use joist hangers..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
