I'm looking for options to secure some or all of my equipment- mostly my MIG welder.  I also have a drill press and horizontal bandsaw that I have in a shop in my barn.  The barn is not really lockable.  Choices include:1) building a cage (a lot of effort and takes up space)2) welding or attaching a loop on the equipment to allow me to run a lock or cable through it.3) Other?I have a Miller 175 and can't easily see a way to lock it down (I currently run a U-lock through the plastic handle to a cable).  I open to all suggestions....
Reply:if you have a slab floor you can bolt stuff down
Reply:Turn off the electric and lock up the torch, grinder etc.www.urkafarms.com

Reply:its called a BARN DOG, visit your local pound and pick up a pup that weighs in around 70 to a 100 lbs and treat him like gold.pound dogs have GREAT RESPECT  for people that rescue them.they usually will go apesh@t if someone even comes close to the property, and he will have a nice new home  (YOUR BARN) or get some DUMMY  video cameras  from h.f. dawg
Reply:The reality is in the current world, anything you or I own is fair game to any junkie looking to steal it, or any kid wanting to destroy it.  Rights of ownership no longer exist thanks to all the liberal pisspots.Photographs of your equipment, recorded serial numbers,  and a detailed inventory along with solid insurance coverage are about as far as you can go unless you're in Texas, where you still have the right to shoot theives in the night.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:Oh shucks, you don't need no stinkin right...just do the duty!
Reply:I will definitely do the pictures, record serial numbers, etc for insurance purposes.  Thanks for the reminder.  If I actually catch someone stealing it I'm afraid I may forget some California laws.  Of course disposal of evidence may be an issue, is this where the barn dog comes in?
Reply:That's what a shovel and the Mojave desert are for.
Reply:Don't forget: If your near someone(even in the desert), use lye.  Thanks CSI.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:If you have to shoot'em, make sure they're dead, otherwise you'll probably get sued.
Reply:Mason's slacke lime is a lot cheaper than lye.  You don't want to believe everything you see on television.Around here there seem to be a lot of guys showin up at the hospital with a .22 in their *** claiming they got it in a driveby shooting while they were just standing on the corner minding their own business.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:Best way to get rid of the evidence is wild hogs they trunit to chit nothing left but that

Reply:I used to work with a Navy Seal out of the Vietnam days. He said when the gangbangers started hanging around his neighborhood, a .22 cal right on the eyetooth convinced them that maybe this was a bad place to do business as it would blow out their front teeth and they had no idea where the shot came from. But then again, his solution to every problem was "stick them on a spike, that will convince everybody else not to do that anymore."
Reply:awe, give a pooch a new home and chain the hell out the tools,(not the dog)  and when buying chain or rope for the dog to be tied to make sure its long enough to exceed the robbers running skills !dawg, (saved from being put down)
Reply:When I was in the Navy, I was on an ammunation ship. I made friends with the "EOD" team we had on board. All navy small arms Ammo has a shelf life, and has to be destroyed then its past the shelf life. When the ship was in the Phillipines, I spent a few aftrenoons with my EOD friend, a Chief electrician. Destroying ammo, mostly 308, and 45 ACP at the Nav MAG firing range. We watched Seals praticing with supressed (Silenced) .22 pistols, and special subsonic .22 ammo. In certain cases .22's will do the job.
Reply:When I'm not home Dogzilla has free reign of the Magic Garage. When I'm home a shotgun is within easy access(no kids around).

Reply:I use motion sensitive lighting in my yard.  They are up high to make damaging them difficult.
Reply:FranzNo he wasn't an ex Marine (too much class). I'm having a senior moment, I can't for the life of me remember his name (about thirty years ago). I remember making a mistake, and going on liberty with him in the phillipines. He took me to the "Bamboo Grove" if I remember right. That was a EOD, Navy Diver, and Seal hang out. Those boys know how to "recreate"!!!
Reply:neighbor of mine got a sign with the outline of a german shepard on it and it states "I can make it to the fence in 2.5 second..can you?"
Reply:a simple sign stating....there is nothing in this barn worth your life
Reply:Im looking into getting a LOWJACK box for my trailer. It wont keep the thing from getting stolen bit if it is it can be tracked by satelite to where it is.no you cant fix it with a hot pass.BORN TO LOSE, LIVE TO WIN.
Reply:Lojack doesn't use satellite, it uses a tranmitter that the police DF on.  Only works if the PD has cars w/LoJack.  Look for crusers with 4 19" antennas in a square, with a possable fifth antenna in the middle.  There are several Satellite tracking systems, they are bulkier and then to be more obvious, though I've seen them on light plantspat.Hey 7018,They don't have to be wild hogs, any hog feed lot will do ..... trust me.Ron ShopFloorTalk Millermatic 350P, M-25, M-40 gunsDynasty 300DX, Coolmate 3, Crafter CS-310 TorchTrailblazer 302, 12RC, WC-2430A spoolgunSpectrum 2050Thermal Arc Plasma Welder PS-3000/WC-100B
