Learning to stick weld 6" mild steel pipe in the 5g position uphill. 6011 root 6013 hotpass 6013 filler x 2 6013 cap. Looked on Internet for a diagram for electrode angles to use but can't seem to find anything. Could any of ye give me some advice or point me in the right direction to get some answers.
Reply:Boy that is a tough one to describe with the type written word. A lot easier to show you in person. Once you learn to read the puddle, you'll know when to start changing the rod angle, it just takes time to learn.Dont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Keep the electrode pointed at the center of the pipe. After some experience you will learn when to change the angle, if its needed. I like keeping it pointed at the center when its overhead and when its flat, the vertical parts I like just a little push angle.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG
Reply:to start with, just go strait in center. keep rod strait angle at pipe. and go from there

Reply:That diagram is a great help il try that, thanks lad
Reply:squirmy said it best. Not sure about your skill level here, but assuming you know how to read the puddle... just keep the rod pointed to the center of the pipe all the way around. Coming up from, say, 4 and 8 o'clock positions, you might hit a bit of a push angle, which is cool. once you get to 2 and 10 o'clock, get back to pointing it to the middle, or straight in. If you want to be fancy, try and get a bit of a drag angle once you pass 1 and 11 o'clock. But it's not necessary. If you're weaving the cap, make sure you stay in the puddle. I think the general rule is "the top third" of the puddle". |
