Hi all- I am new to the area and wanted to know of some good places to buy steel, new and scrap. Right now, I need some 1.5" square galvanized but always seem to need something. Anywhere in the Bay Area would be ok. Thanks! Matt
Reply:I use to visit Sims on Monterey Street – near the fair grounds, but they have turned mostly to recycling. Last I visited them, they did have a small retail area, but it has shrunk to the point that I don’t go there anymore. I now shop at South Bay Metal which is near Gilroy: It is kind of hard to find, but from San Jose, take Monterey, south. Just before you get into Gilroy, there is a small street called, Buena Vista on your left. If you see Farmer’s Market (a feed store) on your right, Buena Vista is just a few yards to your left. From Buena Vista, take a left on Radtke Ave, and then another left on Denio Ave. South Bay is at the end of Denio. If you find another metal supply yard, let me know – nothing like comparative shopping.
