What size and thickness of tubing do you use for receiver hitches?Thank you
Reply:Female would be receiver tubing sold by the foot at your local steel yard. Basic difference between receiver tube and regular square tube is the lack of an inner seam on the receiver tubing. Pricier than regular square tube, but well worth it is you've ever tried broaching the seam out of a section of regular square tube. I believe in overbuilding stuff, so I would probably couple that with 2x2 square tube with .25" wall thickness.  If you plan on using a hitch for anything heavy or even to travel on road, I would BUY a complete setup from Curt, Reese, etc to limit my personal and legal liability if anything should fail.Have fun with whatever you are building!Harbor Freight Inverter 130 amp DC stick/tig (sold, really!)Lincoln Square Wave Tig 175 AC/DC stick/Tig
Reply:Princess Auto, here in Canada sell the standard 2" inside,seamless tube, with 5/8" hole and wrapped end for $10.00 for 10" long, $30.00 for 20" long. It's usually 2.5 outside,and .188 wall thickness.
Reply:CraboHitch Receiver tube is the only atypically sized tube in the book.  It is not 2.5 x 2.5 x .250 wall.HR is  -  2.530 x 2.530 x .250 wall.  The interior bead removed with cutting broach drawn through the tube.This gives a split .030 clearance between the stinger and the receiver.It is a stock item at your regional steel-yard, and general-welding/machine-shops should have it by the foot.DOT approved.   Opus
