A few projects I've worked on this year so far. This first one is a 1975 36ft hatarras fishing boat. The boat got damaged during huricane issac, another boat came untied smashed into this boat and destroyed the bikini top. The top was all mangled and all the legs broke off. I repaired the top. Reply:Welded cracks in the first picture, second pictures top was a top ordered in a box was all flimsy when put together so I welded it solid Attached Images
Reply:A few sets of rod holder's Attached Images
Reply:Rod holders look great. Did you every figure out an edge flare or protector for your rod holders?
Reply:Not yet. Problem I'm having is local metal distributer only sells 1/8 and schedule 40 thickness aluminum. I've tried to heat it up and then flare it but it just cracks and breaks on me.

Reply:That would be ideal but machining those would probley become too expensive, considering they sell premade and anodized for about 20 dollars a piece. They are made from thin walled aluminum. If I could flare the ends and anodize my self it would save me as well as allow me to manufacture these and possibly sell them at a lower price than what's currently available. To sell a set of holders made from premade prices I have to charge 40.00 a piece to make a profit and theres a lot of people who either can't afford it or don't want to
Reply:why not just roll some 1/4" ali rod and tack it to the ends of the rod holders? There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:Not decorative I suppose.  Good idea though.
Reply:What about some rubber or vinyl edge trim like this:http://www.mcmaster.com/#flexible-st...ommets/=kx6bhq
Reply:Me and an employee installed to top today. Had to use a lull to lift it high enough. Attached Images
Reply:What about using some sort of dimple die in a press and then just cutting out the 'dimple' and tacking to the end of the tube?
Reply:That could absolutely work
Reply:If you don't have a lathe or access, shoot me the specs you need and I could probably cut one for you.  I've already screwed around with them.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=62895
