Recently at a customer I saw a portaband that had been converted into a horizontal band saw. Looked like manufacturer pieces not something cobbled together. Unfortunatly, it didnt have a brand name on it. Anyone know of a company selling such a package? Thanks, Doc.Some of the things I do would cause a person to get hurt, expelled, arrested, or possibly deported. To put it another way, don't try this at home.Look at the stars whenever your can. That light travelled a long way to get here, dont let it go to waste on some patch of asphalt.
Reply:Porter Cable makes one to fit their saws- theres one here-http://www.contractorstools.com/portercablesaws.htmlMilwaukee also has one for their saws-http://www.oldhouseweb.com/ourStore/...00022486.shtmlIf you have something funky like a makita, I dont know if they make one, but they might. But you should be able to adapt one of these to fit most saws.
Reply:I have a milwaukee portable band saw. Great tool. I've see their adapter in action at a local big box store. Really not what I would want to pay $250 bucks for. I built my own conversion and it works great for what I want. Time consuming and wouldn't reccomend building your own. Where does that leave you though?? LOL.. I bought mine because I really want and need the carry capability at times. BUT if all you want is a good band saw, for the price of a portable band saw plus the cost of a conversion ($500+) you could buy a pretty ok horizontal band saw in the low end brands."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt |
