Ok, ive noticed that walking the cup on a cold pipe joint is simple and when the metal heats up it is a whole different story. My issue comes when the pipe warms up it feel like the cup has more friction and it doesnt slide so easy. It makes a scraping noise. i was using the diversion 180 torch (weldcraft legacy)  that comes with a torch head thats almost a right angle. I bought a regular weldcraft head today and it has less angle. this made like a 30% difference. Any suggestions on what i can do to get less friction on the pink #8 cup to make it slide easier? Thanks...
Reply:walk it light.... there is no need to put a lot of pressure on the cup
Reply:i think the extra pressure comes from the heavy diversion torch hose, it feels like a workout after walking the cup u know...
Reply:Your not supposed to be touching anything with the cup in the first place.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:maybe i don't understand the question, but if you are sliding the cup, i don't think you are "walking the cup."  walking the cup is more of a roll, small pivot, roll.  The only time I can recall sliding is when the metal heats up more than it should be. Then it becomes like glass and the cup slides off.
Reply:4", Tiger Paw™ Coated Abrasive Flap Discs........... Just "flapper" the bevel of your pipe. When welding chrome with the preheat pads, your starting out with pretty hot pipe. Eventually you will want a bit of "grip" and you can back off from using the Tiger Paw to get a mirror finish.Something similar to this - https://us.vwr.com/store/catalog/pro...uct_id=8669780 Adjust the diameter of your cup to the width of the bevel as you begin to fill the joint......... and YES your supposed to touch the bevel of the pipe with the cup....Thanks,HoboLincoln SA200's... at least 15 - 20. Reply:Well its not really a pipe joint, its a flange/fillet joint and i can wiggle or slide the cup untill the metal gets hot. then it feels like it has much more friction, thats when it makes the scraping sound, is that sound normal? i was told to put less pressure on the cup

Reply:Think of it this way......... Rather than use the term "walk" think of the term "roll". Kind of like positioning a wheelbarrow into a tight location. You would roll the wheelbarrow back and forth to advance it. You would not "slide" the wheelbarrow tire sideways.....The amount of travel is proportional to the distance the wheel travels. The larger the OD of the wheel = the more travel. In trying to cover more distance you are sliding the cup. Increase the diameter of the cup and give it a try. Thanks,HoboLincoln SA200's... at least 15 - 20. They come and go. Growing partial to the "Short Hoods" in my old age.
