A/C dead on my TIG

Guys I have a syncrowave 180sd, serial # LA251346, it is an older machine, no digital anything  just a tig stick knob with a big polarity switch in the middle. Anyway, I lost my a/c. couple little sparks and a womp here and there and thats it. It works fine on dc negative, I tried different torches, put on a new power cable to the torch, points are fine, and i'm stumped. Any clues, this machine is in a basement with horrible wooden stairs and weighs alot. Bringing it to my LWS will be a nightmare. Reply:1st thought is if the contact on the switch has an issue. If the contact for AC is burned, then it might not be actually going into AC mode. That might have happened if you didn't get it all the way into AC one time and ran it that way.Hopefully Duane or ccawgc will come along and make a few more technical suggestions..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. I got it down there with a rope and some wood, it aint coming out like that, and i'm afraid to put 2 guys plus the weight of the machine on the staircase. I'll do what I gotsta do tho bro! Roll up the carpet, cut out the floor, hoist it straight up then put everything back...I'd like to know why those guys in the video with the lift gates were bothering with that machine. Reply:If duanne doesn't pipe up, I'd try posting over on the Miller board. Cruzer over there is a pretty sharp tech. I would download the manual and go through the troubleshooting section before I go any further. Bad news is that the 180SD has a bad reputation for pooching boards. You will also need to post up you S/N, so they can get the right schematic.Good Luck

Mike,Here's the manual http://www.millerwelds.com/om/o355a_mil.pdf for your unit based on the SN you listed in your first post and the first thing I'd check is all the PC1 board plug connections making sure to check for corroded terminals.Next I would check for continuity between PC1 RC1 pins #6 (wire #37) and #9 (wire#39) from the changeover switch S5.  Check plugs PLG4 and PLG5 in the same circuit for good contact as well.The fact it works OK on DCEN confirms SCR modules MOD1 and MOD2 are functioning so it sounds as if the machine doesn't know AC has been selected (continuity between RC1 pins #6 and #9).Mick - gotta get me one of those.
