Looking for a mitre band saw.

Hi all.  I am just getting into the metal working hobby & am looking for an affordable horizontal mitre band saw.  I am taking a welding class at our local community college & they have an Ellis 1600 that looks mighty nice.  But it & even the 1100 are out of my budget.  Can you make any suggestions for me in the $500 range?  Somewhere (here?) Reply:Check out www.jettools.com, and while your at it check out www.grizzley.com.What size material are you looking to cut. As I said in another post I like cold saws instead of band saws for cutting. They give a superior finish cut, are much faster, and can be cheaper. I know Dewalt sells one in the $400 range, and if you want a more capable unit, check out DAKE.
Reply:Hey, thanks sdonecker.  I'll check out the grizzley site & Dewalt also.  I'm such a newbie with metal work that I don't even know what cold saws are, so I'll check into them also.  Thanks for the tip.
Reply:A cold saw looks and operates like a hot chop saw or a miter saw for woodworking, but with a carbide tiped circular blade that runs at a slow speed for cutting metal.  Here is the dewalt unit DW872, or you could take a look at a DAKE unit here Dake .
