I am looking for a gas powered stick welder. I saw the Hobart Champion 4500 at the local Tractor Supply. It is pretty much what I need, portable enough to move around easily but heavy duty enough for farm and ranch work. Asking price was 1160.00.Is this a good welder or is there a better or even comparable welder for a less costly price?
Reply:The Miller Blue Stare 3500 is the twin to the Hobart. Lincoln has the Power Arc 4000 and Power Arc 5000. Compare prices and features. I had the Power Arc 4000 and liked it. Only got rid of it to step up to a bigger machine with more features when I needed them.A few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter Victor O/A
Reply:SOTXThe Hobarts are pretty much gonna be the cheapest you'd want to go with. TSC is kinda high sometimes. You might want to check online with the free shipping retailers like B&R Welder and IOC. You just might find it cheaper. If local expenditures are you thing, check out AOC, Airgas, and Trigas for the Miller price and compare. Also, FWIW, Northern Tool and Harbor Flotsam ( Freight) also carry those machines.
Reply:The Champ is an AC machine, the Bluestars are DC and will be a much better welder. I would reach out and go for the Bluestar 6000, it has a lot more power and better duty cycle and the 6000 watts of AC power is pretty respectable for tools or emergency.www.urkafarms.com |
