My son has a 12', 36" bottom Polar Craft that was given to him and it has a few cracks in the hull and in other areas. So today we started the repairs. This is in the corners at the stern. Cracks and one bolt hole to fix.We will repair the cracks in the hull next. Yes, I did drill the end of the cracks. Here's the pics..1. the corner on port quarter. The crack is longer than it looks in the pic2. the corner on starboard quarter. the crack is hardly visible in the pic3. repaired port quarter.4. repaired starboard quarter.repaired port quarterrepaired starboard quarterand yes I did go back and fix that crater

Reply:Thanks. Used a Syncrowave 200 @ 90 amps (foot control manual pulse), 15cfh argon, 3/32" 4043 filler, 3/32" 2% lanthanated tungsten, sharp. I just bought my tig machine on the 18th of December so this was a good test for me. Thanks again.

Reply:Cool!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I have found that the crack is less likely to come back in aluminum if I don't grind off the weld beads. That extra thickness of the bead adds considerably to the durability of the repair. Sometimes you need to grind it to make it look good, but on a boat I think I'd rather have the strength.Miller Syncrowave 350Millermatic 252/ 30A spoolgunMiller Bobcat 225g w/ 3545 spoolgunLincoln PowerArc4000Lincoln 175 Mig Lincoln 135 Mig Everlast 250EX TigCentury ac/dc 230 amp stickVictor O/AHypertherm 1000 plasma |
