I found a really nice looking 330 A/BP with Bernard water cooler, argon tank, etc. for $750. I thinking about jumping on it, but how the hell do you move a 900 pound welder?? I have a truck that can handle it, but I have absolutely no idea how I am going to get this into or out of my truck. This can't be a new problem. What's the secret for folks without a forklift in the basement? If I have to hire a truck with a lift gate, it isn't going to be worth it any more.Miller Multimatic 255

Reply:My 1,200 pound lathe and 2,400 pound mill were moved using borrowed/rented trailers.  Fortunately we only had to scoot the machines off and onto the garage slab.  The lathe was loaded by dragging it up the trailer ramp with a come-along.  The mill was loaded with a forklift. Dealing with heavy machines is something you just have to learn.  It takes awhile to get used to the idea and you have to plan it out. In our case, you should have seen two guys who each weigh about 125 lbs. wrestling with the big iron."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder

Reply:Oldendum - of the stuff I bought and moved the lathe and mill were definitely the most awkward.Louie1961 - one thing to watch on the miller 330 - the bottom is not solid, make sure nothing pokes up into the machine if you support it from the bottom instead of picking from the top.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Prior to moving our mill, I acquired 1/2 dozen pieces of 8 ft. long x 12" wide C-Channel from a neighbor (for free).  It is great ramp material and not likely to collapse from anything I will ever use it for.  Probably C 12" x 20.7 lb./ft."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:my problem is I really don't have any chain hoists, come-alongs or engine hoist. I am thinking I would have to invest in equipment just to move it. things that make you go hmmmmm....I wonder if I can bribe my 29 year old nephew to grab a few of his air force buddies and and a truck move it for me. How much beer does it take to bride a bunch of reservists?Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:900 lbs is not safe to handle by hand - bribing with beer won't change that in my opinion.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Go buy an engine hoist at HF or NT. Couple hundred dollars and you'll be surprised how much you'll use it.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:IF you can get it to the cellar stairs you can always use some plywood for a slide...Hold it by the lifting eye and tie it off to a trailer ball and slide it down the stairs with the truck as the brake.Been there done that with a Bridgeport......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:One of these.I've rented these from Sunbelt for as little as 48 bucks for a weekend.  The one in the picture looks a little lighter, but the ones I've rented have had a 4x9 deck, 5000 pound load capacity (for single axle - 10,000 on the tandem model), electric brakes - really a sweet little setup.Roll it on the deck with a pallet jack, strap it down, hit the little button, and watch it lift.Who is John Galt?
Reply:Should be able to rent n engine hoist if you don't want to buy one.

Reply:When I bought my Syncrowave 250, about the same weight, it was on very short notice and I did not want to lose the deal. They loaded it on my pickup truck, and I called a wrecker to come to my house and unload. Cost me $45, but cheaper than back surgery. Later I bought a HF 2 ton shop crane and it picks it up easily. Try to have a rolling cart or dolly to place it on to move around. You'll be glad you bought it and that seems like a good price to me.Burt _____________________Miller Syncrowave 250Millermatic 211Miller 375 Plasma Cutter Hobart Handler 12010FtDrillBit.com

Reply:These days I use the Yellow Wrench, a Case 580K tractor/loader/backhoe. Unless you live in the worlds nastiest city, someone near you has a tractor with loader, skid steer, or forklift. Otherwise, a couple of guys with simple machines can do wonders. Secure it to a four piece 2x10 frame, set it on the trailer on a couple long planks. 3/4' schedule 40 PVC conduit cut up in short pieces  create a magic carpet. Use a Vaughn Superbar, (like a Stanley Wonderbar but better quality).Remember, you need to do this twice. Once is when you buy it. The second is when you buy your new Dynasty.

Reply:If you have a truck that can handle it, very little equipment is needed. Take 5 30-36" 1 1/2" to 2" pipe, 2 30' 1/2" braided nylon rope,  some 2x4s, a pair of 2x8s with the metal ramp kits/ends, and a spud bar. Crow bar helps to. Using the spud bar lift up the an edge of the welder and place a 2x4 under one side.  Lift the other side up and place a 2x4 under it. Screw a scrap of 2x4 across the top of two under the welder to tie them together.  Using the spud bar lift the front edge of the 2x4 and place a pipe under the 2x4's Using the spud bar go behind the welder and pry it forward. As it scoots forward place two more pipes under the front edge.  Now you can push the item easily. As one pipe exits the rear pick it up and place it in front.  If you have to go across something other than smooth concrete or asphalt lay a track of 2x4's, even across soft grass. When you get to the ramps (make sure you remove the tail gate and the ramps are on the beds edge) take a rope and attach it around the welder about half way up.  Run the tail up and thru a tie down point and back to the welder.  Tie a truckers hitch close to the welder and run the tail thru it.  Have a person stand in the bed or off to the front side and pull on the tail of the rope.  Get behind the welder and use the spud bar to pry it up/ foreword on one ramp an inch or two and switch to the other as the ropeman(woman) pulls on the tail.  Two people on the back to pry at the same helps speed things up. Trucker hitch and friction of the rope gives the rope man the ability to hold the load I have move 5000 pound lathes and combine transaxles under a broken down combine in a muddy field.Put an add in CL for someone with a tractor in your area.  Someone should be able to help.  I lifted my Syncro with my tractor, but it was less than half the weight of a 330.

Reply:Moved lots of stuff like firebrick describes!Worked for the Egyptian Slaves who built the Pyramids, will work for you too!Yes, its HOT and Sweaty, maybe a little dangerous but can be done.In Louie's case check Craigslist for Hoist if you strike out at Rental place. I would definitely ask everybody at Work or neighbor about a tractor/skidsteer/engine hoist as the Farmer dude my not be willing to drive into a Sub-Division but the Exec down the street with the Kubota would probably love the ego trip of doing it for you!
Reply:see that's why I love you guys. I didn't even think about the farmer next door. I wonder if one of his old Case tractors is strong enough to lift this beastie. He would do it for a case of beer. Thanks guys.Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:There was a farmer that had an Allis "WD", not a WD45 on a tricycle front end with a loader which would lift a 1000lbs easy! My "antique" JD B with a boom will lift almost 500lbs at 7 feet, but will lift around a 1000 at 5 feet.

Reply:louie;  those craigslist monster tig machines with 100% duty cycle going for cheep were making me drool also till i came down to earth and realized they weighed beau-coo pounds and were the size of a small frigidaire. in my mind i was chopping holes in the living room floor to lower it to the basement, smuggling planks home from work to make a slide because the stairs wouldn't hold all that weight but in the end i realized it wasn't very practical from a rigging standpoint or maybe even a power one either. feeding one of those machines could be the equivalent of having another kid.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:this hoist will lift it, have one mounted on my F350 flat bed, truck bed, http://www.amazon.com/Vestil-WTJ-2-O...ds=truck+hoistI do not recommend the HF, stuff (unless one de-rated 50% from manufactures rates,  (my guess is there rated at max or failure) I have two of the HF units as well,  there good little units but there not what there rated for),  the HF is in the S10, and on the log splitter,
