I'm moving to Europe next year and I was wondering if anyone knew if my journeyman cert. or red seal did anything in Europe. Would I have to challenge their journey-person test . any advice or tips regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated. thank you
Reply:Welcome to the forum.First of all as a Canadian working in Europe is a little bit complex, the exact requirements depend on the country you want to work.Your qualifications are not of any use here. You will have to qualify according to EN ISO 9606-1 or EN 287-1 unless the project will require some other code/standard (eg ASME IX).These qualifications have a certain range for various variables (material group, thickness, diameter, position etc) so even if you own a certificate it may not apply to the job you are interested in.Also it depends on the country you want to work, for example in the UK offshore industry most welders are required to pay for their qualifications, in most other cases your employer will pay for them. Previous certificates are used most of the times to prove your experience but usually you are required to get tested even if your certificates are current. |
