Guys first I just want to thank everyone who takes the time to answer some of the questions on the site. Rookies like myself are very thankful with your patience and honesty, because some of these questions must seem pretty silly to some of you who have been doing this for many years. Again thanx and here is my question.I am looking for the best way to notch 2" round tubing together at a 90. Is the best, and cheapest way to go is just get an end mill for drill press. And if so where is the best place to find one. I have been searching the net, and have found many very expensive lathes and other set-ups. Hopefully you can point me in the right direction. Thanks again.
Reply:OK I'll bite, is it two 45* to get a 90* or is it two 90*to get 180*?But a chopsaw will do it...... Last edited by Robin Hood; 05-27-2005 at 10:19 PM.
Reply:The very best bang for the buck is "Lowbuck Tools" notcher, I have had one for many years, and it is a very simple, rugged, dependable tool. I would stay away from the hole saw type, they get expensive, and are a bit difficult. Do a search here (and eBay) under pipe or tubing notchers. There is already much written about your options. Best of luck. If you decide on the Lowbuck type, I will be happy to post some pictures of the handle, and mount (it comes without these to keep the cost down)I made for it, let me know.Just my  opinion, not from a book, just from the road.Howes Welding Inc.www.howesweldinginc.com
Reply:I have to Agree with tessdad, if you have miles to notch, but man is this notching thing all over the place here.......
Reply:tess, if you could post those pic's, that would be great. Thanx
Reply:caz41 here you go..http://www.lowbucktools.com/notcher.html  but if you don't have alot to do, you could just make a jig on a piece of PVC pipe and slide it over the pipe and mark it if that makes sence..  But when you get to the other end is were it get tricky, but if you need some help, just ask......  Last edited by Robin Hood; 05-28-2005 at 06:42 PM.

Reply:Hey caz41, Here is a picture for you, the angles are bolted to the notcher, they stay in place. If I want to, I can remove the two vertical bolts, and bolt or clamp it to a bench.  Modifications, bolt welded to side to hold unused cutters of different sizes, arm with holes and spring to return cutter to the open position. This mount is on a heavy section of 2" square tube, it slips into a trailer-hitch type "receiver" that I have on the back of my truck, an another one in the shop for bench work. Reply:Also, The mount on the truck can hold a vise! The handle is about 66" total, it comes apart for easier storage in the truck. The offset is about 45 degrees, the reason it is straight, is that the outer section of handle is 1" pipe and it stores in the main 1 1/4" pipe. Ya, I know, it needs a bit of paint, anybody want to be an apprentice? ? ?
