Ive been a welder for 20 years so I can tig, but I started a project and I keep getting pin holes.Ive had the Thermal arc 95 tig/stick for 3 years and it get used a lot, it has been a great welder,I using compressed argon and red tungstion. This is the same set up Ive used the hole time Ive had it and now its pin holeing, not every weld but more than half.Im tired of grinding welds and tacks.Does any body have any idea of what it can be?Ive tryed gas psi fron 10-20 and this doese not help.

Reply:Is it a new tank of argon? In a recent thread I recall a similar problem where the op had 3 bad tanks of argon and fixed it by getting argon from a different LWSTiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma. Reply:Before going the argon route, have you tried welds on some different material? Contaminants from the material would also cause issues. If you can run clean beads using some different steel, then I'd start to suspect either your prep isn't as good as it needs to be, or that the material has a lot of impurities. Not a huge surprise if it's cheap import steel that's coming in these days..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Im thinking it may be the rods I was using,I had some one pick up a few lbs in town and they are r45 and the other half dont have any # just 3 lines.?Ive never seen any like this before.I did weld some on flat bar and it was fine so I got an er308 and went back to the tube and it welded fine.So Im thinking it may be the rods,I dont even know what they are.

Reply:I agree that you found your problem. The problem is caused by your rods. R45 is for gas welding and will cause porosity every time when you use it for tig. Had the same problem once. |
