http://www.ebay.com/itm/290763946576...#ht_1798wt_142It looks really old, and has a "programmer" add-on. Is that something that's built-in now? I can't find info on the miller web site for it. All it comes with is a water cooler - no torch or leads. It's only 2 hours from my house and I doubt anyone would want to pay the freight. What would you guys offer for it?Since I have no equipment to plug into it I guess I can't test it.
Reply:IMHO...That seems pretty steep! You can do WAY better than that for that amount of $$$$$$I paid 600 for the AB/P 330 and got the pedal with it..Just add torch and GO!...zap!Last edited by zapster; 08-24-2012 at 11:14 AM.I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:That unit is over 20 years old. And does not look to be well taken care of. The water cooler is an Oberdorfer unit and probably dead.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:Ok what about this one? Obviously this price is ridiculous for no add-ons, but any idea how old this one is? I mean, if it "worked" wouldn't it be worth at least $1000? One thing in the ad that looks funny, is $68 UPS ground to anywhere in US. Really? Isn't that thing like 700 pounds???http://www.ebay.com/itm/320967845408...9#ht_500wt_966

Reply:I have been looking at craigslist for a while now with zero luck. I guess I will have to set up a saved search on eBay, but seems unlikely to net anything. It would be nice to know about actual auctions for this kind of gear - somewhere driveable from the Austin area.

Reply:Wow - I figured out I had left my CL set to Wichita Falls while trying to look around - did not know about search tempest. So I missed that Austin one. That was a deal.Austin TX
Reply:I usually use "welder" as my search term with Searchtempest and sort the list manually to look for hidden "deals" many times people simply list "tig welder" or "arc welder" with no other description like model. This snags those listings usually if I can't find anything using the traditional model names..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I think you have to ask yourself what your needs will be before anything else. I bought a cream puff Syncro 250 off eBay for $1350 fron the original owner. No digital parts on it, so less worries. Syncro 250's come up on CL a few times a year here. Usually in the 1-2K range and ALOT better looking than either of the 2 you posted. It seems to me that welders go for more money in your area than elsewhere for some reason. I'd personally try CL around urban areas near you and be prepared to travel.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum

Reply:I've noticed different results when i search for "weld" and then search for "welder". So make sure you search for a few different terms. Try machine brand names too.Do what it takes to get the job done right.

Reply:These have been really helpful, thanks! I think I'm starting to get a bead now on what's a good deal, and they don't just sit around very long like most good deals. That last sync in the ebay link is nice (doubt it will go for 1500) but can they really do that cheap UPS ground? Isn't this thing several hundred pounds?Austin TX

Reply:A pair of 330 A/BP and one cooler for $500 starting bid. Too bad it's not one machine with torch, leads, pedal, hoses, etc. Sounds like a decent deal if they both worked, not sure I want to take that chance. Also not sure I can handle this beast - no AC balance - continuous HF - only "sine or half wave" options - for those that have used them, what are really the limitations other than learning how to use them?By the way I'm not getting these particular ones - way too far away and he wants $150 to prep them for freight. I think unless there's a smoking deal on shipping on these things I need to keep looking local.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Miller-A-BP-...#ht_500wt_1089Last edited by skychance; 08-27-2012 at 10:03 AM.Austin TX

Reply:I thought I'd chime in about shipping. The eBay rates are estimates listed as a feature on eBay - not because they're accurate. "Free shipping" is generally accurate, and everything else is a guess, yours or the seller's. The eBay shipping calculator is not to be trusted for shipping rates. For real shipping quotes we need to use the shipping carrier. The cheapest freight quote I came up with on UPS for 800 lbs traveling between Omaha and KC as an example is over $500. As DSW said: think engine block, not heavy cardboard box.

Reply:Yes regarding transformer boxes, I'm only looking as far as I want to drive my truck. I have also never been able to find freight for anything less than $400 if it's "engine block" and 1/2 way or more across the country from past experience. No cooler in this one - just air cooled torch, ground, stinger cables, and argon hose (no regulator or bottle). Seem like a decent deal if it runs good? 7 hour round trip drive - that won't exactly be free.I could easily grab a bottle and regulator, even a stick or two as well, to take up and run it and see. I also have a pretty capable digital multimeter.Austin TX |
