Getting ready to spring for a new Dynasty 200dx.I am pretty sure ill get the bare bones machine and equip it with what I want. For now I am going air cooled and and probably a CK superflex, but cant decide between a 150 a or a 200a torch. My main concern is flexibility.I do dabble in aluminum and had my econotig pedal pegged a fair amount of the time. I just want a good all around air cooled torch.
Reply:I have and use the W9 small, W17 medium and the W26 large air cooled torches. I use the 17 the most, its not to big and is light. I have put 200 amps through it a lot of times but only for small jobs as it will get HOT.I would say the 17 would be the best for your needs at this time.www.georgesplasmacuttershop.comPlasma Cutter and Welder Sales and Repairs--Ebay storeTec.Mo. Reply:if u plan on running it maxed a lot, I would definitely consider getting a water cooled torch sooner rather than later. Ebay is a great place for buying a torch. Reply:CK-TL210 is a 100% duty cycle 200 amp torch very similar in size and weight to a17. Either way I would use stubby collets, collet bodies or gas lenses. These use nozzles from #9 series torches.Last edited by ironrail; 08-26-2012 at 05:23 PM.

Reply:I guess i should have read your response thoroughly. You did answer the amperage question. So does the 200 torch run cooler at a given current?
Reply:CK Torches, yes. CK-TL210 is called a trim line # 26. Torch length 8.5 inches long,5oz.torch body weight. #26 torches use a heavier cable.I haven't used one of their super-flex cables. You would need different fittings for a #26 torch. Using stubby front end parts you probably won't need a #9 torch. I'm unning a Lincoln #17 with ultra-flex cable ,but wish I would have bought a CK torch for more duty cycle.Last edited by ironrail; 08-26-2012 at 05:59 PM.

Reply:Thats a good point. Pricing things online can not compare to actually holding the torch and cable in your hands.
Reply:The Super Flex cable is great,if I ever needed a new one I would replace it with the same.
Reply:I wish i could handle one before i buy it. Small town Alaska doesnt allow that very often. How bout CK's fl150 flex loc. the head swivels 360. Sounds pretty cool but maybe not for your main torch.I appreciate the responses people.
Reply:Is it practical to change torches while using the same cable?Hope you dont mind all the questions. I do consider myself a novice.
Reply:I highly recommend a CK flex head torch with flex lines.I use a CK 230 FLEX head with my Dynasty 700 all day long. I can push 325 plus amps with a torch that is rated 100% duty of 300 amps. This is a water cooled torch, and I know that you want to go with gas cooled, but the point I am trying to make is that with the inverter technology of the Dynasty you can very easily get away with a smaller less duty cycle torch with a Dynasty than you can with say a Syncrowave of yesteryear. The 200 amp torch will be more than ample.
Reply:Great infoThank you
Reply:I have a CK trimline 210 with superflex cable for my 200 amp @ 60% duty cycle inverter, and it works great. I do like the stubby gas lens front end components for it as well. The trimline 210's superflex cable (outer-braided silicone rubber hose) has about the same overall flexibility (and outer diameter) than a standard PVC-type one-piece WP17 cable. The 210 superflex cable is a bit "denser" however, with its braided copper conductor inside being heavier gauge. The handle / dimensions of the trimline 210 setup are also about the same as a standard WP17 setup. The CK trimline 210 is probably overkill in terms of current carrying capacity for the little Dynasty though. You should be able to get by just fine with a CK17, rated 150 amps @ 100% duty cycle AC or DC. The aircooled flexloc 150 would be a great match with the little Dynasty. The Superflex cable for the CK17 or flexloc 150 would also be even more flexible and lightweight than a trimline 210 superflex cable.I wouldn't recommend a standard (Weldcraft or equivalent brand) WP17 though, because they're only rated at only 115 amps @ 60% duty cycle AC. That wouldn't be enough for the dynasty 200's rating of 150 amps @ 60% duty cycle (or 200 amps @ 20% duty cycle.) |
