Reply:That's an easy one to answer... None of the above, at least new. Used you might find a Syncrowave in the sub $1K range, but you'll have to really hunt, and move fast when it pops up. Your most likely find will be an older Syncro 180. Bottom end on the Sync 200's is right about at $1K, though I have seen the rare few that went lower. If you find a sub $1K dynasty, it's probably a scam or broken. Even if your budget was $2K you'd be hard pressed to find one in that range. The Diversions don't seem to pop up used much. Probably because they are still relatively "new", having only been out a few years. Even those that I have seen tend to go for more than $1K..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:For under $1,000 you can buy a used DC stick welding power supply and connect it to a gas cooled torch. If you want something more fancy than that I suggest you save another $1,500 and then come back to us.With all due respect welding aluminum is not for amateurs. Without a few years experience you'll just end up throwing your hands in the air out of frustration.Stick welding sch 40 isn't that difficult. For hobby project I cant think of any reason to use TIG for that.Last edited by Joshfromsaltlake; 09-01-2012 at 05:01 AM.

Reply:for $1000, I would look for a used syncrowave 180 or 200, or maybe a Lincoln Squarewave 175..You might move your budget up to $1500 and go for a syncrowave 250, or a Thermal Arc 185, or HTP201.. be hard to beat a syncrowave 250 in that price range though..I dont care for the diversions, I wouldnt have one myself...tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
Reply:Its a 165 machine its on craigslist the guys moving n wants it goneIf the conversation isnt money, then Ill see you later.
Reply:If he wants it gone, he needs to ask less than $1K.For once I agree with Brucer, I wouldn't want a Diversion personally. You give up way too much and don't get much in return, especially with the Diversion 165. You can't stick weld with a Diversion, it's underpowered for alum, upgrading the torch is a PITA, and it lacks any sort of adjustments or advanced controls. A syncrowave eliminates all these deficiencies. I guess if the Diversion 165 was down below $750 I might think about it. Even then I'd probably opt for an older Tigmate over the Diversions. At least you could stick weld and upgrade the torch if you wanted.Moe if you add your location to your User CP so we know where you are at, someone might help you find a better machine. Not knowing where you are, it's pretty much pointless to post up suggestions..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:I got my 180 SD complete set up with pedal, stinger, torch, ground, and cables for $800.00
Reply:I paid a grand for SD180 but the guy delivered it a 4 hour drive.I do love it. DC stick is great and TIG is still a pipe dream. It has AC for AL. Jody claims AL is a good metal to learn to Tig on but I have only started gathering bits of aluminum. We all like pictures right?Miller Syncrowave 180SDLincoln WeldPak 100 with gasHandheld Milwaukee BandsawO/A Cutting Torch

Reply:Here's a link I found about a week or so to a Used Syncrowave 180 for $1000. No idea how frequently they update their web site or what condition it's in. I think they are in NC.https://www.blacksmithsdepot.com/pag...ave_180SD.xml/Knowing your location at a glance would help big time with things like this....No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
