cold cutting

Hi folks am new to this forum..My quistion  is cold cutting aluminum alot less noisy that a regular chop shaw?.I dont want to piss of my neighborers any info would be great thankx..
Reply:You can cold cut aluminum with all kinds of saws- I have used a table saw, a skilsaw type circular saw, a router, a jigsaw, a bandsaw, and a cold saw. Regular electric miter box type chop saws for wood, with a carbide blade, will cut aluminum just fine, but it isnt quiet.Wax is a good lube for aluminum.Amount of noise depends on the speed of the tool- a regular circular saw turns pretty fast, and screams pretty loud when cutting aluminum.A 5"x8" bandsaw is nice and quiet. My $3500 german made cold saw, which turns at about 75 rpm, cuts aluminum very quietly. Plasma cutting works great on aluminum too.One thing that doesnt work very well is a regular abrasive blade chop saw- they load up, and stop cutting pretty quick.
Reply:Ayuh,........ Like Ries says,.... Any thing that'll cut Wood,... Works Great on Aluminum.........Wax definitely Helps alot,.. Beeswax is Best......Keeping the Aluminum COLD will also Help Alot,....... In the Winter,.. I use Snow held on the workpiece near as possible to the cut.........
Reply:Hi thankx for the replys folks.I think I will be going for a horizontal band saw.Have any of you used a "RONG FU "? Before ?I can get it for $1096.75 canadian its cheap and in my budget lol..ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT THANKX.
Reply:Rong Fu is about the bottom of the barrel. You are right- its cheap. And you get what you pay for. Harbor Freight is about as low as you can go, then Rong Fu, then up towards Enco, Turnpro, and the like. Slightly higher quality would be Grizzly, then Jet. Grizz and Jet actually support their tools the best, with service and parts. Much better is a used, made in america or europe, real tool.In the vertical bandsaw world, Do-All, Grob, Marvel, Johnson, Dake are all good names. Depending on where you live, you might be able to find a used industrial model for a similar price.
