toolbox/ cabinet build

hi all, im new here, still practicing welding but i want to build my own toolbox/ cabinet as a project over time. I've searched through the forum but couldn't find much, I seen "BTD" (I think) built a great cabinet/welding table, my quiestion is have many of you built your own as a project and maybe have some pictures or advice? I want to make it with mostly drawers and one door where my welder will be stored, I found one that i like I'll try post a picture and see what you think, hopefully it will be based on this but with some differences like the top shelf won't be needed Attached Images

Reply:oh no they aren't mine, sorry for the confusion they are the ones I seen that I want to use as a base design for what I want to build, just wanted to see if many people here have built their own and have some pictures or advice on doing so  I can't remember what site I found these on but I'm sure someone here has seen them before

Reply:That's the one cheers  seems to be the most straight forward way I have seen to do it, hope some people around here might have some experience of their own, it would be great to see other peoples ideas

Reply:I've been thinking of doin the frame the same way (minus the overhead part) and putting some wooden drawers and door and sides, I think I can do better drawers with wood and less cost? Any opinions good or bad on that idea? cheers for any input
Reply:I am planning to build my own tool cabinets, from bending up my own sheet metal drawers, to building the cabinet frame.  Mine with have a very aerocraft feel to it though, and very little welding, since I work primarily in sheet aluminum and solid rivets.I will use some welded sections, though.  I will build forklift tubes into the base of each one, using aluminum rectangular tube, welded together at right angles (to allow the forklift to pick them up from any side).  I'm sure I will also weld the handles and lift rings.  Pretty much everything else will be constructed more-or-less the same way you build an aeroplane wing.KevKevin / Machine_Punk from The Aerodrome Studio - Lincoln PowerMIG 210 MP - Meco N Midget w/custom welding station - Vintage Victor 100Current Projects: The Aerodrome Studio

Reply:I will certainly post the welding bits here...everything else you can see in the thread in my signature line.  I have been teaching myself Oxy-Acetylene welding on steel, with the intent of moving to aluminum eventually (using the TinMan Tech techniques, fluxes, and fillers)I've been studying designs of different sheet metal boxes, from the methods used to stiffen the super-wide drawers, to the different designs for drawer handles and catches.  The aeroplane-like design elements are just the way I choose to build most of my projects.Anyway, I'll definitely post stuff here, as progress is made.KevKevin / Machine_Punk from The Aerodrome Studio - Lincoln PowerMIG 210 MP - Meco N Midget w/custom welding station - Vintage Victor 100Current Projects: The Aerodrome Studio
