Yes the customer said it came off a 3000hp drag motor, busted under load. Typical BBF head has 10 head bolts but this TrickFlow head has an extra 8 holes to try and keep it from lifting off block. Cracked through bolt hole and into spark plug hole. He wanted to save this because it has some super duper cnc port job by some top builder. Same old same old--- cut out crack, pre heat, weld, post heat, machine. Attached ImagesEquipment:2  old paws2  eyes (that don't look so good)1  bad back

Reply:nice repair, ive never cut the whole cracked section out of something im fixing before..... i usually v both sides  as long as i can get to them and then weld them in. im guessing that was a must for that application but is this something that should be done on all cast aluminum crack repair applications?mike
Reply:when i left drag racing just 5+ years ago, Single turbo mustangs were making 2000hp. Those heads you repaired are a version of the Cleveland cylinder head and Im sure they are work a sh!t tone of $$. I have no doubt these current day mustangs are making 3000hp. nice looking repair.an old friend of mine from 2 years ago[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Mr8vTTIOE8[/ame]

Reply:Hi Peter. Again nice repair!! Out of couriousity, do you have any guarentee's on your crack repairs that you do? Also when you do an aluminum repair, what kind of filler do to use? I would like to do some engine work myself and considering buying the engine machining DVDs from Goodson. Thanks,Chris
Reply:You didn't drill out the head stud hole?
Reply:I've been marveled at every repair you posted.  The end results are always amazing.  I've had VW type IV motor built for me and right before the heads were put on, I discovered that there was a crack.  It was repaired before the motor was put together, and I have had no problems with the motor, but I only had the car for about a year after the engine rebuilt.my question is, is a head like this really as good as new?  perhaps the repaired area is BETTER than new?  assuming that the repair was done up to your stands.
Reply:I am curious as to why you decided to cut the area out instead of just V-ing the area out ? Great results!!!
Reply:have a top fuel drag boat in our shop now, with a variant of a 427 chrystler, gorr fuel system, kuhl charger @ 35lbs of boost, 8:1 compression on nitro methane pulling well over 3k HP @ 10gallons in a 4.55 second 245mph run.anything is possible with the proper amount of time and $$$-the repair looks great! @ the power that thing is pulling I wouldn't doubt that he has straps to hold the heads in intake onto the engine because it is all to common for them to completely launch them 100yards into the crowd.'14 HTP invertig 221Thermal Arc 201ts'15 HTP 2400'13 Hypertherm Powermax 30Esab 875Esab 251Clark Metal Servicespecializing in stainless steel exhaust systems

Reply:Vehicle weight and mph in the quarter me is an indicator of hp, ET is torque. 3000hp is almost exclusively turbo charging territory in these small-tire, door slammer mustangs.
Reply:A friend of mine has a 91 mustang with a twin turbo (twin 62mm's) 347 putting out 1450hp/1160tq running 8.50's in 1/4mile.  I posted a couple videos a few months back.  He's changing to twin 68mm turbos added extra head bolts (keep the heads from pushing up from boost), dropping a couple hundred pounds with carbon fiber doors, hood and fenders, also a new converter. The car was a convertible and he changed it to a hard top, that also dropped weight..  He's shooting for 7's this year, and 6's next year..  This is in a nmra true street car, pretty dang fast if you ask me.. I'll get some more pic's and video's as it progresses.tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/

Reply:remember this folks the motor can make 3000hp on a dyno but slam her into a car with a trany and rear end . now thats a defferent story iv been around circle track racing and drag racing all my life i use to get my transmissions dynoed because the tranny and rear end all take horse power to turn and propell and tbh im not a ford guy nor chevy my family has been runing mopar since they started racing in the 1950s but nice work tho
Reply:therefore if you have made the transmisson and rear end as smooth as you possilble can you will have less rotaking mass there for you will have an edge over a guy who goes out every weekend to run just for the fun of racing every little thing you can to make the car faster is a second of your et time its the same for nascar if you can make the car faster in the corner than the next guy it will be harder for him to pass you on the straight

A car could have 200,000 HP but if it can't get traction, it won't accelerate as fast as a 25 HP lawn tractor. Yep. Sure enough!

Reply:why are we still talking about whether 3000hp is possible or likely?http://bangshift.com/blog/dyno-insan...g-engines.htmlthere are guys out there with more dollars than sense, horsepower is just a function of money.  how much horsepower do you want?
Reply:I'll throw one in there too:[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAhRbncifvc[/ame]I won't give away the numbers for that motor, but suffice it to say, with no forced induction, the HP numbers would shock you especially when compared to that twin turbo motor above.
Reply:Originally Posted by castweldBingo!Dude said engine had latest and greatest blower, a 14-71 blower is capable of 65psi boost, also said was "big displacement" which could be 800 inches, I didn't ask what fuel but the ex ports had the salt and pepper look- nitro. Did it make 3000 hp? I really don't know but with the "good stuff" and a tuner that is on the ball- yes 3000 or more is possible. The top fuel hemis are smaller displacement and are claiming up to 8000hp. I guess all of that is besides the point anyway, the thread is about fixing a head.Peter
