So we had these two 24x48" pieces of 1/2" Plate laying on the floor in the shop, basically tripping hazards for my students. I know they would have made one of you guys very happy to use as a welding table! Anyway, we decided to make a BBQ Grill like you see at parks, except better!! We saw a design like this on the Plasmaspider website and decided to make our own copy of it. The kids did the drawing and I supervised all of the cutting on our plasma table. It is being welded together with a Miller 252 set on "Kill" as Zap would say. The kids have the base together and we are going to try and get the grill part welded up on Friday. I will post some more pics when we get it all done. We are probably going to donate it to a school based group to auction off or raffle in the future.Hope you like it! Attached Images

Reply:Heavy duty! Neat design. What program did your students use to design it?
Reply:I thought my grill was heavy duty.Next to this one mine looks disposable...
Reply:Wow, Beefy! You make some of the coolest projects that I have ever seen come out of a shop class.Your students are very fortunate, Kudos to you!Buy American, or don't whine when you end up on the bread line.
Reply:We hail from the frozen tundra of International Falls MN and our high school mascot is named after Bronko Nagurski, a native son. He would only OK it if it was spelled Bronco instead of Bronko. The kids used Autocad 2013 to design the stove and then we used the newest version of Plasmacams software to cut it out.

Reply:Dang that looks sharp!!!!!!!!!!!! Another cool emblem one could put on their BBQ grill or smoker is either that "Bio Hazard" or "Radioactive" symbols on them. Makes for great conversation around the cooker with the meat smoke'n and beer in hand with friends. Reply:I thought you were gonna make a diaper changing table that are in restrooms. You would have to have one heck of a insurance policy !!!!!!!!!!!!! Not to mention a hydraulic pump for the cylinders to operate .
Reply:Wish I had a crapload of 1/2in plate laying around
Reply:Bad a** grill. We made BBQ/fire pits in my school. Sold mine for $300.
Reply:I had time to run to school and take a few pics of the finished grill. We used 1/2" rod run all the way across and welded underneath to hold the grill surface in place. The handles are punched and plug welded to the bars. We are going to wait before we attach legs or a center pivot post, it depends on what the eventual owner wants. Attached Images

Reply:Tagged for reference.Very nice job. It's one of the nicer ones I've seen done.Anyone who works with Scouts, this would make an awsome service project for one of the kids. Find a local fab shop who would be willing to do the CNC cutting and maybe donate some materials, and a local park where you could put up a few. Your local Scout camp would also be a great place for some of these. A lighter weight one might make a nice "portable" grill to take camping as well. I'm betting ifallswelder would be more than willing to send out the cut file to anyone who is interested. Change the logo to either one for the local parks service or the Scout emblem and you'd be good to go. Nice way to get the kids interested in welding and working on their merit badge at the same time.In fact I'll shoot you a PM. I know someone local who works with Scouts. I might pass this idea along to him if you can shoot me the cut file..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Whoever wins it will get an 8 foot pipe to concrete in to the ground at there home. The stand it is on now is just to paint it and display it.Our next big project just showed up today also. A 24" by 75" piece of pipe to make into a grill/smoker on a trailer for the local fire department. Anybody got any good ideas/designs to share? Attached ImagesWell we know one thing for sure, that will last a very long time.
