Just ordered a Hobart 140 and need to choose solid wire. I have an 80cf bottle being hydro'd, revalved and filled with ArCo2 75-25.Which wire should I be running for mainly auto body sheet metal? I plan on trying .023, not sure if it should be ER70s 2, 3 or 6.Thanks!Lincoln AC/DC 225/125 and WP17. 75A AC is for pipe thawing!HH 140 - new addtion 9/2012.I didn't agree, but hoped for Hope and Change.I got change for myself and my family: for the worse. This is the reality of: Barackalypse Now. Again.

Reply:I have a Lincoln 180. It is in the same general ball park as yours. I have had good luck with both the .025 and .030 wire, but I have found myself in rare situations where the .030 was just a little too hot. I use the same 75/25 mix. If you have access to the back of your weld, pick up a copper spoon or two. I picked up a couple from Harbor Freight, and they have really been nice to have when welding sheet.
Reply:Lincoln SuperArc L-56 wire. Are you heavy tacing patch panels or welding full length seams ?
Reply:I'll be spot / tacking the perimeter of rust out patches. In the auto body class I took, the instructor's method for this to to make multiple tack welds all the way around the patch until it becomes one continuous weld.I see the smaller Hobart contact tips availble for my 140 are .023. My closest suppliers are Lowes and Home Depot, which carry Lincoln. They have .025 wire, and I guess the tips wont work, but can I run the .025 wire through this machine with the .023 tips available, the drive roller is marked .023 / .025.I have the newer H100S2 gun.Lincoln AC/DC 225/125 and WP17. 75A AC is for pipe thawing!HH 140 - new addtion 9/2012.I didn't agree, but hoped for Hope and Change.I got change for myself and my family: for the worse. This is the reality of: Barackalypse Now. Reply:I welded up some sheet metal with my new to me MM250 with the standard .035 wire. The tack, tack, tack method worked great for me and can be fast once you get into it.This was my second actual MIG weld I done going from the sheet metal to 1/4" box tube. |
