Headers for Heinz

A friend of mine owns an exhaust shop and asked if I would build a set of headers for a customers car.  It's a late 50's Studabaker frame, Packard motor, and Jaguar suspension. It's a full on hotrod Heinz 57.  Customer didn't care if it had equal length runners, just wanted spent gasses out of the motor. Flanges were supplied via customer and the rest is speedway U/J bends. Still have to make collectors. I'll post some more pics after I start tiggin it tomorrow. In the mean time, any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Reply:Didn't get over to work on the headers today. Didnt feel like loading my welder into the back of my truck and driving across town in a snow storm. Rabidchimp, mildsteel bends getting ceramic coated I guess. And HAHA! You said port work! For the peanuts im getting paid to do this job, he's lucky i'm tigging them.  Crash5291, the guy who owns the car rebuilt the engine 30 years ago in his highschool shop class. It's been sitting under a work bench since then. Hopefully I'll finish them on saturday and can post pics then.Why buy it for $10 when you can build it yourself for $100.

Reply:Well, I had the air ride break on my car, we got a foot of snow overnight, I had to put my dog down, and my 9 month pregnant wife wanted me to hang at home for most of the weekend. But, I got some work done on the headers. Not the best welds in the world, but that just means I get to practice more. 3/32 thoriated, #6 cup on a gas lens, 70ish amps, .045 er70s6 when needed.
