TIG ? Check your pulse?

I was teaching my new apprentice to tig weld today and he asked how often I use a pulsing technique. I thought about it for a second and realized that I pulse almost everything, probably 75% of the time or more. Reply:Are you talking about setting the pulser on the machine or simply "pumping" the pedal.In general I do neither except on rare occasions. I have seen very slow pulse settings used to train guys to dip filler regularly..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Sometimes I will build a new stack for a boiler, and I like to pulse, but I only see it useful on light gauge/thin material. I think pumping the pedal or setting the machine to do it for you is one in the same. Anything 14g and thicker is done with steady current.Constant Current Weldor.
Reply:Not too much, generally.When I was taught to Tig Aluminum it was described to me like this:The most likely place to have a crack start is right at the beginning of a weld, or right at the end.When you pulse like that, you are creating a bunch of starts & stops.Buy American, or don't whine when you end up on the bread line.

Reply:4130, I tig like that all the time, set the machine at a high end of what is required. I dont like using the pulser for aluminum much unless Iam 1/8 or thicker never caught on to it on thinner material
