Hey all, haven't posted in quite a while. Cant even remember my last post...but I've been lurking just about everyday . Anyway, since then I've set up a small shop in the garage, and got a job as a weldor, and have been fabricating this and that... This will be a place I can dump pics, ask and answer questions, and discuss! A candle holder/ashtray:Ashtray (with ashes!):More coming...

Reply:A chop saw stand I made recently. Still gotta figure out how I'm going to fix the saw to the stand so it doesn't vibrate off of it .
Reply:Here is what I'm working on today in this damn chicago cold My exhaust rusted off the cat...I'm hoping I can clean that up and maaaayyybe get some 6013 on it. Here is the part that rusted off. Pay no attention to the messy table...its too cold to clean up and i've just been pushing things out of the way trying to get this done.Well I'm headed back out to the shop to attack this, I'll come back in periodically to warm up!
Reply:Weld some short peices of angle iron on end to the table at each corner of the saw. That's what I did for mine. If the saw is needed elsewhere simply lift it off. Reply:Originally Posted by forhireI have the same saw. I don't think I've had any real vibration/movement issues. Are you certain your blade is true and balanced and installed correctly? I normally set mine on the work bend and it stays put fairly well. If you need to keep in from moving try tacking a few scraps at the corners to prevent it from moving. Another option would be to cut some short lengths of pipe and set the feet in the circles and then tack the circles in place. If I recall three of the feet have similar rubber feet with the right hand rear being something different. Capture two or three feet in the circles and it won't be walking but can still be lifted off.I did have to replace my half nut on the clamp a few months ago. Here's some pics.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=144271
Reply:Originally Posted by GregAI am not sure if it is true and balanced...but installed correctly, yes. What kind of blade do you use? I purchased this saw recently and have been using Diablo 14" abrasives. I hate to weld anything to the stand, not because its really nice or anything, but because I use it as a bench sometimes. The saw came with 3 bolts, but I never really looked at where they'd screw into. Great job on the quick nut! Every time I use the saw, the nut bothers me. When I loosen the vice and go to flip the nut back, it always bounces back!edit: Also, something I've been thinking about: I leave this saw and a few grinders and other power tools in my unheated (unless I turn the kerosene heater on) garage year-round. Tonight when I was fixing my exhaust I noticed my cheap-o grinder wasn't working. It's 19 degrees out, it was around 50 the other day, and I can get it to 70 with the kerosene going. Think the temp changes/moisture could be screwing with my tools?

Reply:Forhire, there is moisture though, which worries me. Mostly worried about the welder. The outlet was live lol, but I will have to try spinning the wheel and then turning it on. I think I'll mess with the chopsaw tomorrow. Ive got this crazy idea to turn it into a wheeled cabinet to hold clamps and rattlecans...stuff that tends to end up all over the "shop."Whats up Gamble, thanks! Which cig holder? The shiny one was done with a dremel ripoff POS with a diamond bit. The black one was done with a round file. Kinda want to take these to the flea market and see how they do. I'm sometimes in Cook, sometimes in DuPage...west . Don't really want to get too specific. F the weather, but at least its not snowpocolypse.

Reply:What a great idea, unbreakable ashtrays.
Reply:Cut 2 pieces of angle the width of the saw base and weld a short 1" or so piece of angle to each end so they wrap around the corner of the sides. Then weld 2 short rods to the angle pointing down and drill matching holes in the bench. When you want to use the bench alone, just lift off the saw and lift out the angle iron pieces. You will then have an empty bench with four holes in it. To use the saw, set the angle iron with the rods back in the holes and set the saw in place and cut away. If you use a piece of angle that is 2"or 2.5" high on the back side of the saw base it will keep from throwing the cutting dust out the back and keep most of it concentrated on the table top for easier clean up. You could also drill corresponding holes in the legs to store the angle pieces in when not needed.

You came on here wanting suggestions, so I gave you mine, don't feel stupid, you were just having a brain fart moment. That's why we are here, to help each other out of these situations. If you framed the whole base with angle, it would contain practically all the cutting dust and debris.
Reply:C-clampsYou could bolty it down but C -clamps woyld be fast and easy
Reply:Originally Posted by GregA Thanks for all the input! I think I'm going to use your idea with the 4 holes and angle with rod welded to them.
Reply:Then you can weld the rod on the top of the angle, not under it and everything will line up perfectly and no weld bead on the bottom.
Reply:Have ya got a mount made to hold the saw on the table yet? Shouldn't take long to make.
Reply:Perfect welding. Your projects look incredible. Nice job on those.
Reply:The weather and work have been keeping me cooped up this week. Ill try to get out there this weekend though. Thanks surf! |
