Not sure where to post this, but I'm trying to duplicate a finish I've seen on some custom built furniture. They create a black and a rust finish depending on your request. The rust is very subtle and smooth, just a hint of orange color. It looks really good. They of course won't give me the exact chemical they use but maybe you can figure it out from their description:The chemical is a non-toxic steel penetrator that is similar to whatthey use for gun finishes. It penetrates the steel, sealing it andpreventing it from further rusting. When we first apply it, it turns thesteel black immediately. If we leave it on for a longer period of time,it starts a rusting process which is stopped once the chemical is washedoff with water. After that, once the it dries, we then seal it with several coats of alow-gloss clear-coat.Any ideas?
