Dimple Dies

I am interested in gettin a few dimple dies in sizes like 1inch, 1-1/2, 2 inch. The sets are pretty pricey. Anyone have sets they want to get rid of? Experience with different brands? Advice?Don't know what a dimple die is? Google it! It punches a flange around the edge of a circle, creating better strength in sheet stock and adding a killer look to items you fab by lightening up the amount of stock with a nice circle in it. Reply:If you have a small lathe the dies and punches are real easy to make.I made a very small one today. I make them to fit the project and the gauge of metal. Even if you dont harden the die they seem to last a long time.G. Brady
Reply:we used to make them on the lathe  also...i think we  were punching  about  10 gauge with a  1/2 inch dimpled hole...these were for  door  snuggers...you  could weld  the  roundstock  from the  back side  around  the  dimple and it  would  be  hidden when installed on the  door
Reply:Brady, I don't have a lathe. I have a machinist friend that will make stuff for me for free, but I only go to him when I REALLY can't do it myself. I try to pay him, but he always declines. Anyhow, I am looking for a dimple die that will punch something a little thicker than thin gauge. I would love to have a 1-1/2 inch dimple die to punch 1/4 inch plate. That would be trick. I looked some stuff up on the net and found on www.vansentent.com dimple dies are for thicker metals up to .125" and punch and flare dies are for up to 16gauge. That may only be true for their tools, I don't know. Maybe you can't dimple thicker than .125". But if I can, I want to. I can build a press myself and I am pretty handy with the hydraulics from experience.
