Just acquired this welder an I understand its not an industrial welder, thought I could use it around the house for different things, I have a 17ft. aluminum boat that I want to add a few personal touches to. Would it be better to add the argon kit to this welder??? Can I weld alum. without argon??? Don't have much invested in the welder. I was told I could weld alum. if I got alum. wire, is this so???? Any help would be appreciated!!!!! Thanks You!! Denny
Reply:Assuming your welder has the gas kit installed already, you'll need a teflon liner for the gun, argon gas, not a mixed gas. You'll also need a stainless wire brush, a new tip and make sure that your new parts match the size of wire you'll be using. Fair warning, you'll be lucky to be able to weld 1/8 aluminum with your welder. It doesn't have much amperage and it takes more power to weld aluminum.
Reply:Thank you Sir!!! for quick reply. No I don't have a gas kit as of now but will get one hopefully soon. So maybe I need to look into selling this welder an get a unit with more amperage!! I have a craftsman stick welder in my shop, not sure what size it is??? Havent seen it in yrs., Thanks again Sir!!!! Denny
Reply:Get a decent 220v welder if you want to do much aluminum. You'll need straight argon and spool gun. I don't think the lincoln 100 can even do aluminum. You need more amps than steel and good duty cycle.
Reply:If you don't already have the gas kit installed save your money/time. Sell the 100HD and get a 220v machine. You'll still need all the other things mentioned in my previous reply but you'll be way ahead of the game. |
