I slapped together this wall basket to hold my toothbrushing stuff.  I planned to store the stuff in the bathroom, but in reality bringing it in and out of the bathroom twice a day was not practical, and it usually ended up somewhere near the sink.  For photo context, the living/floor space in my fiberglass trailer is only 8x13 ft total.  My original idea was to make the basket from scratch with 1/8" rod, but this expanded metal box idea popped up and won out because it seemed easier.  Welding the flimsy expanded sheet to 3/16" rod with an oxy-acetylene torch was no picnic.  That stuff wants to disintegrate in the heat, especially lengthwise, so I decided not to revisit and shape any of the welds.  If you look at the underneath shot, you can see that I gave up on trying to weld every contact to the flat bar at the wall end of the bottom panel and reinforced it with a 1/8" rod instead. The front panel had some buckling problems as well. I think I could make a much cleaner basket next time by cutting the expanded stock to maximize the tab of material on all sides of the cut, adjusting the overall dimensions of the structure to accommodate the pieces of expanded sheet.  That extra bit of material would allow me to shape each weld more deliberately and smooth out the appearance a little. Reply:Ok, I like it, and I have a pop up trailer so I get the size, BUT if you have a toilet they say that every time you flush it causes some "stuff" to go airbourne and float around. this is houses too. So perhaps best to have "put away". Reply:Power: I wire brushed it and coated it with Permalac acrylic laquer.  I use Permalac for just about everything with little trouble.  It's expensive but worth it.  I don't acid wash or anything, just make sure not to touch any piece with bare hands near the end of fabrication or after wire brushing.  Stump: I suppose that's a possible issue, but I've lived in mine full-time for over 6 months now without issue.  The toilet is in the room behind the wall you see, so the tooth stuff would probably be better off out here anyway.  The bathroom is also a shower, so the whole room gets a hose-down every couple of days, plus I installed an excellent whole-trailer vent fan in there, powerful enough to empty the whole trailer in seconds with enough windows open.  Unless it is really cold, I always leave a window cracked and the fan on low anyway.
