guys, Is patch PWHT permitted in any code for piping branch or reinforcing pad ? header pipe:ASTM A671 CC60 , DN 900 THK 36 , now the subcontractor only set soak band around the pad.
Reply:What are you trying to accomplish with the PWHT? Stress relieve?Constant Current Weldor.
Reply:yes,SR.oval patches allows relaxation of the stress,maybe the residual stress obtains little higher,i think .so ,any code permitted patch PWHT for pipe branch(not vessel ) ?or any paper ?
Reply:What code are you working to?For example ASME 31.3 does not allow this. 331.2.6 Local Heat Treatment. When heat treatment is applied locally, a circumferential band of the run pipe, and of the branch where applicable, shall be heated until the specified temperature range exists over the entire pipe section(s), gradually diminishing beyond a band which includes the weldment or the bent or formed section and at least 25 mm (1 in.) beyond the ends thereof. |
