Let's try something here. Call your LWS and see what prices you get quoted on a Miller syncrowave 210 and Dynasty 200dxI still can't justify giving my local place any business. I got quoted Syncrowave 210 $2579 + taxDynasty 200dx $3442 + taxThese prices are ridiculous. Reply:^^^ This sums it up for me. Once in awhile I get quotes from the competition to keep mine honest, and it does. Ive bought 15,000 plus in equipment from them in the last 4 years or so and they really like to see me come through the door. LOL.  The last Trailblazer 302 was a good 1.5k off list for me.
Reply:My LWS   Syncrowave 210 $2,550               Dienasty  200DX $3,200 ( Joking)I have an account with my LWS and the manager is a really great guy and having a good relationship pays off.  The manager lets me know when he is looking for some tool specifically and I usually look around and get him a good deal. Also the driver delivers gas bottles to me from time to time and it doesn't hurt me to tip the driver. I never ask my LWS for price matching or any discount, he just always hooks me up but I do spend over 5k a year with them.  Sometimes I get free welding rods, gas connections and last year the guy gave me a chinese plasma cutter for free that someone traded in for credit towards a new one, It worked but since I didn't want to invest into a new torch and consumables I end up tearing it apart and using it for parts.  The best part though is that I never have to pay for bottle certs , My steel supplier deals with a lot of recycled metals and saves me the old gas bottles that come through, I get them free and I just take them to my LWS , They exchange my bottles and I sell them on craigslist for way more but at a good price.Find a LWS and build a relationship, Even a steel supplier. If you don't have much money  you can always stop by for a visit and ask questions ( Not to many ) even a pointless conversation with the sales guys goes a long way but make sure to introduce yourself and let them know what kind of work you do . Reply:I use both. Bought my only Miller welding machine(Power supply) that I own for $2,200.00 from my LWS. Came with a mig hook up package to boot. It's a Miller Shopmate 300DX.. No sales Tax in Oregon, so zero factor.. Would of cost me 3319.00 on-line.. By the way, it welds sweet with my Lincoln feeders... I am going fishing with most of them on Labor Day.. Something that the on-line guys don't offer.. Reply:Airgas is my local. The New Hampshire store isn't much farther. I called NH, asked if I could pay cash for a new machine. They assured me I could. As they don't charge sales tax, I could defer the tax until April 15, when I pay to VT 6% instead of 7% at local store. It's honor system, many don't pay the tax as most don't see it as fair.Discussions of improving the price, not to match but making the difference justifiable were rejected. I promptly received a notice from Burlington VT (100 miles from me) that my designated store is Rutland, do business with them. Many of Airgass's practices offend me. I like the local employees, but feel management big shots adopt policies that offend customers. They feel they own the only ball and bat, if we want to play ball, we live with their rules.  Every month I find errors in my bill. Sometimes it takes months to correct. The local employees say it's the computer program, they have to catch, and override when an invoice is created or it ends up in my bill. It often takes more than one call to Burlington, they assure me the correction will be made, but it appears again next month.I ended up buying from Cyber Weld. It was effortless!
