Any idea what kind of metal this is?

They used to hold florescent lights. Can these be welded on at all?Was thinking of bending them all out and making some sort of box.
Reply:Should be plain sheet steel from all the ones I've worked with installing the lights. Check it with a magnet. If it's magnetic, it's almost certainly steel..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Most likely 20 or 22 guage. Don't use a regular grinding disc on that paint. If you must use this stuff...use a flap style sanding disc...80 grit or higher so's you won't turn it all into razor blades. Better yet, blast it off where you need to for welding with o/a torch if you got one...just hold the handle in when you do it....then hit it quick with sand disc.
