Trailer Ramp Mods

This weekend I changed the ramp on my trailer to a pair of ramps.  The mesh was really beat up and about to pull through.  Much more heavy duty and i can take them on and off by my self easily.  Also no wind resistance hurting my mpg.  I used strictly materials from the gate to make the ramps.  Also made some angle iron slots to hold a two by ten for keeping small items in.  I like it 100 times better this way.Material: Gate is 2in by 3/16 wall square tube and 2in by 1/4 angle iron.  Angle on trailer that the ramp sits in is 3/4" by 1/8"All stick welded with 7018, and the wire mesh was fluxcored with a lincoln 125Before:After:
Reply:Depending on what you intend to load, those ramps are probably too light. My trailer has storage under the deck for the ramps, but it makes ground clearance an issue some times. I've seen guys build a bracket on the raised sides to hold the ramps as well. That would be my choice with the way your trailer is built most likely..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Biggest load will probably be a 50 horse or so tractor and that is only once in a blue moon.  Its primarily for four wheelers and scrap metal hauling.  Might have a occasional small pickup on it, maybe a mini ex.  Nothing over 5k.  I think they will be fine, if not then oh well.  They were free.  An id like to make a bracket to hang them inside the trailer walls cuz the under deck storage hurts ground clearance like you said and it will be used offroad a good bit

Reply:I don't like the lowboy style trailers specifically for the lack of ground clearance. I did the spring flip on mine and now have plenty of room for under deck storage for my ramps.There are no problems. There are only solutions. Reply:Just wanted to say that i used these to load my pickup into another trailer today.  Truck is a 2000 silverado 4x4 that weighs in at 6000 on the dot with the aftermarket assesories and tools in the bed.  No defection or bending
