I need someone with a lathe to drill a 5/8-11 bolt through the center. So I can just fit a 1/4-20 bolt through it Making a grinder adapter. Thanks in advance
Reply:There are many ways to drill and tap a hole. A better description or pic would help as well as material. Could it be toe clamped to a vertical mill, dial indicated and drilled with direct tap?Last edited by shovelon; 08-08-2014 at 04:04 PM.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:How long of a bolt?
Reply:Put the threaded end in the chuck of your drill press clamp it in a vise and everything should be aligned to drill.
Reply:I guess I want to know is this a spinning piece?5000rpm and it would need perfect alignment!Or is it to mount the grinder?

Reply:Well I want to take an angle grinder and use roloc disc's on it so I will be taking a 5/8 -11 all thread connector and threading it on the grinder spindle. Then inserting a button head Allen through the bolt needing to be drilled then threading the bolt into the all thread connector so that I can attach a roloc hub to the 1/4 20 bolt
Reply:So what I need is someone to Chuck a bolt in a 3 jaw and drill with the tail stock
Reply:Why not use the ones that fit an angle grinder already?wait, maybe I'm thinking of the wrong tool?Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:You will need some tight fitting threads ( No Slop ) on the 5/8 coupler or connector you are using. If you have a drill press, you could mount the grinder to the table, chuck up a centering bit and center it to your bolt connected to your grinder. Turn on grinder ( Drill off )and lower chuck with bit into your bolt followed but a 13/64 bit or # 7 ( less slop), Then tap the hole with a 1/4-20 tap. Doing this will ensure the discs will be centered with low total out of roundness and little vibration. Do not use a grade 8 because you will break the taps and use plenty of cutting oil or motor oil will work.Sounds dangerous but a disc that is out of round could break apart on you which would bring the ultimate danger. If you find a local machinist to tap the bolt for you make sure not to mention what you're trying to do because they might turn it down. OP Reminds me of a guy that come over who wanted a lot of grinder adapters so he could wet polish rock, I forget the name of the tool but he didn't want to pay 300 bucks for the proper tool, I made 4 and only charged $50 later to find them on craigslist for $100ea. Guy made $350 I made $50. Slimey SOB . I don't do work like that anymore and if someone comes wanting something in bulk I decline.Last edited by NinjaRay; 08-09-2014 at 06:10 AM.
