I need a weight bench so I might as well build one out of stout material which I can then mod as I get smarter about weight training. (I'm a noob but it's time to get off my azz because I'm sick and tired of feeling like shiite.)What have ya'all built for yourselves and what do you like about them? Yes, I can Google pics and plans, but a weldor/fabricator perspective is MUCH different so this is the obvious place to ask.
Reply:I actually have a unique line on this one. As I sold excercise equipment in my retail job back in the day. The first thing I'll ask is what do you plan on doing. What kind of excercises? where will you focus on? what do you want to achieve? There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger

Reply:Hmmm... Depending on where you live, and the availability of steel, I'm finding used stuff on craigslist way cheaper than the price of new raw materials. Of course, my steel supplier only sells material in 20 ft lengths (no partials) and there seems to be a LOT of used weight lifting stuff for sale around here. I'm doing some custom work on a dumbbell rack but for most other things, used stuff, with a coat of new paint and new vinyl coverings works quite well.My dumbbell rack design here...--zip |
