A question about Aceylene tank and Oxygen tank

The tanks have these numbers on the neck and I was wondering what they mean? Can they be refilled? or do they need tested rt. away or will I need to dispose of them.The tanks are marked Thoroughbred  Larger oxygen  tank:TC-3AAN174 SPUN DOT 3AA2265 M80042928067 03A05+*Smaller acetylene tank:77 Air Prod. 140 cu#4Thank you for your helpMuk
Reply:They are definitely useless you should throw them in my trash bin! JUST KIDDING!! The oxygen tank is tested good until 2015 so it can be changed out (05+*o)= 05 is the year tested, the + means it can be filled 10% over or under suggested pressure rating 2265psi , the * means it's a 10 year rating from last test in 05. The acetylene tank is never a sure bet if you don't know age, but if it is in good condition most places just swap them out for you, they aren't hi pressure like oxy/co2 and such. It's more in the range of propane pressures. (Low)  Got a pic of them?Real welders know how to penetrate!(Equipment)Whatever can be used to beat my opponent into submission!

Reply:Nice set!Around my area they usually go for ($300-500) used, depending on size, condition, empty/full etc..I don't think you will have a problem swapping them out for full bottles when it's time.Also  thoroughbred is sold at tractor supply. They will exchange it as long as it's not out of date.Real welders know how to penetrate!(Equipment)Whatever can be used to beat my opponent into submission!

Reply:125 for the set up is a good deal! If memory serves me correct, tests are good through the stamped year, so should be good till end of 15.Acetylene dates take black magic or something to figure out, I've never seen one with a date stamped on it. But I've exchanged at least 20 year old bottles without hassle before (just make sure it stays clean and no one will ask)Real welders know how to penetrate!(Equipment)Whatever can be used to beat my opponent into submission!

Reply:Heck of a deal!On the date of the oxy bottle, it expires at the end of March of 2015. The 03A05 means March of 05.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.

Reply:Just swap that O2 bottle out before March 2015, empty or not! Don't tell them either, its up to the Filling Station operator to inspect the date.
