So anyone ever try them? I just did, and they are really hard to start and maintain an arc.To be upfront, I am using the HF 80amp Inverter welder. And I used the smallest rods they sell. My welder states that it will use 1/16 and 3/32 rods, the rods I got burn at the 50-80 amp ranger so it's within the limits of my welder. I had a lot of trouble when I started out using this welder, because the first thing I did was run out to Home Depot and buy 3/32 rods, problem is the burn much hotter than this little welder will run. Then I visited Praxair, they conferred with a "real pro" and they sold me the same rod, in another brand. Then I hit a second shop, they sold me some really expensive "match strike rods" more junk. Finally I turned to someone I could trust, myself. Went down to Harbor Freight and the rods they sell, right in the sweet spot of the welder, 1/16 and 3/32. After a few rods, I could do okay, mind you I'm not great, maybe not even good, but my stuff passes the drop and the hammer tests, so I was pretty sure I could these aluminum rods to at least tack some stuff together. WRONGBy the way, are any of you guys near West Palm Beach, cause I'd sure like to hang out, maybe try some welding, and learn a little something. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Reply:Don't concern yourself with connecting a spool gun to the 100, it won't get you anywhere.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.

Reply:If you are talking about the 95% zinc infomercial rod you use with a propane torch. It's soldering not welding.Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.
