Is this a good deal ?

So I rarely buy aluminum and most of what I have is scraps that are given to me, I was at the scrap yard last week and found some 6061 T6 aluminum squares and angle iron. 2 square tubing are 6"x6"x2' long  and one 3"x3"x4' long, all are 1/2 thick, Angle is 6"x6" 4" long 1/2 thick. When I asked how much I could have it for the counter people told me $1 lb  but they pay .40¢ lb, I ended up  loading it on their scale and it came out to 112lbs. When I payed everyone was surprised that I paid that much for scrap, I felt it was a good deal especially since I can cut the squares for some decent plate. Reply:$1 a pound isn't bad at all for Aluminum.But you bought scrap pieces that are thick, no real use for them other than cutting up.   Kinda thick to weld with your machine.  I'd cut sections up to use as 90's for future thin stainless projects.  Those would be excellent as heat sinks.You didn't do that bad.Last edited by Drf255; 08-17-2014 at 04:54 AM.

Reply:Aluminum drops here at one of the metal yards here in SoCal is $2.50/ lb.
Reply:frig i pay only 1.75 a pound for new here goes up to 2.25 for checker plate i think scrap is .75 a pound almost cheaper to get some shipped from here. thats in canadain dollars
Reply:After reading the high prices some of you guys pay for aluminum, I feel lucky to get it @ $1lb .  I will be going to the scrap yard again real soon to grab some more aluminum instead of buying it online. I hear the bigger cities here in NM sell for even cheaper and have more scrap.
