welding ss material with mild steel electrode and vice versa

Dear friends,      I know this sounds silly but I want to update my knowledge.    What will happen if we use mild steel electrodes like E 7018, E 6013 to weld a stainless steel material and vice versa?usually we use E 309 L to weld dissimilar metals like SS - Carbon steel. It is appreciable if anybody would help in clearing my doubt.

Reply:If you weld it good, you shouldn't see much cracking. It will rust tho.Use only 7018.6013 is useless/worthless for anything welding wise. Makes good cotter pins.
Reply:Mild steel (7018) to stainless?....... Fail.Stainless (309) to mild steel... Win....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Like Zap said.Stainless has a higher thermal expansion rate than your average carbon steel.  The problem isn't so much in the use of the material, but in the welding itself.  It will basically move more than the weld joint can handle.  Then there is the whole 'carbon' part of carbon steel.  Carbon and chromium seem to like each other better than chromium and steel - so your stainless is no longer stainless near the welds.The 309 is a fairly high nickle rod and I believe that makes it more forgiving.I have used 309 on mild steel, 304-304 and even some cast steel/iron (none critical stuff).   Note about using 309 on cast.  Because of shrinkage of the weld, it really is not ideal to hold dimensions.  So you weld the crack and as it cools the crack becomes smaller.  Not only can this stress things, but in my case it was a measuring tool....
