I am going to be welding some coupler fittings into a SS beer keg. When I set up the purge tent on the back side(inside) should I cap the coupler fitting or leave it open to expose it to the purge as well? My thinking is to insert a plug on the outside of the coupler with a small hole drilled into it to allow the purge gas an escape path. I would then make the back tent totally enclosed.Am I on the correct path or is there a better set-up?mooseTimmetalcraft by mooseSoutheast Michiganhttps://www.facebook.com/Metalcraftbymoose Stupid Hurts!!
Reply:Moose, I crammed a piece of crumpled foil in the coupler. I made a 4 by 5 cardboard box (the happy house of argon) and used hi temp foil tape to secure it. It is reusable. Punch a hole for your argon supply tube. I ran about 5 of argon. The foil isn't completely sealing the coupler.Miller diversion 165Miller mig 211Hypertherm pm 30Milwaukee 6230 14 inch chop sawMd 45 mag drill (RIP; fell on its head)New MD 45! Reply:Be careful not to blow through the keg. The coupler is way thicker so spend more of your time there. I used 65 or so amps.
