I have a technical question on replacing a contactor on my Hobart Handler 120. Has anyone used an A/C contactor in a welder? I have found contactors with the same or better specs that are for A/C (they even look the same) and they are under a 1/4 of the price of a Hobart replacement. This welder is older and not worth paying the price of a replacement part, but if the A/C contactor will work, I can get it up and running again pretty cheap. Anyone who can tell me if this will work, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
Reply:From what I remember the contacts don't care whether the current is AC or DC. For the price it may be worth a try.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:Just need to find a Definite Purpose Contactor on ebay with the same specs as the one in there. Usually can be had under fifty bucks.

Reply:Thanks guys. I can get a BRAND NEW contactor with all of the same specs or even one with a higher amp rating for under $10 shipped to my door. From what I can tell, as long as the voltage, the number of poles and that amps are the same, it should work. Am I right?
Reply:To some extent.  I am in the contactor business.   There are many other factors involved such as make or brake current, thermal current curves, tip material etc.  but for simplicity sake, if you exceed the rating then you are good except for coil voltage and current.  Obviously if the coil is rated for more you may or may not pull in Miller 350PMiller 30AHobart trekHTP Invertig 221
