Tell me…. is there anyone here who would pay 20k for this work of “art” even if you had unlimited funds like the Rockefellers or Kennedys>>>?  My husband said DINKs might buy it so they could boast about how much they spent on bad art. --MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act. Reply:So where is the art you were talking about, being worth $20,000? Do you have some pictures of it?  I see the pictures you posted, just wondering where the high $$ art is.

Reply:I'm glad it's not just me. We just sorta stood there in front of it dumbfounded after we saw the asking price. --All me and the kids could come up with was that the "artist" must have been having an out of body experience if he really thought he'd be able to get 20k for what he created in this economy. For 20k I could buy two decent new/used cars for kids, a new computer for me to get rid of the 10 year old computer I'm using that's still running XP, enough steel to tide me over for the next few years, and I'd still have $$$ left over for things like tools. Reply:Art is in the eye of the beholder. I think my kids surpassed that level in construction paper about grade two. It is all about marketing. If you can get someone to pay that kind of money your a better marketer than me. I know an artist whose medium is paint on canvas. In my opinion he is good and I like his work. He has reach some level of success and is able to live off his painting. But he says "Now I have to die a spectacular death and then my work will be really valuable."---MeltedmetalPS- The government here paid in the millions for a painting that is 3 colored bars on a canvas, They say it is a deal but I don't get it. Reply:In 1975? A snob bought a derelict barn off route 7 in Danby VT. His intent was an art gallery. I was 19 and outspoken. I told him I didn't see Danby Vt., a small town with 60 producing dairy farms and 1000 people as a Mecca for artists or art buyers. I was wrong! This guy BSed his way to becoming a destination for the art world. To rub my nose in it, he would show me bank deposit receipts. In the 70s he claimed his commission ran between 10,000 and 30,000 monthly! At the time he had only a few painters capable of drawing a dog, and one sculptor, Peter Farrow I felt were worth a $hit. The rest of the barn full was crap. He's very old now, the gallery is closed. He proved if you build it they will come. Art prices are insane! Of course most artists never sell a thing in a lifetime. Until some pretentious snob says your work is something special, it isn't.By the way, Farrows work has skyrocketed in value. pieces that sold in the seventies for 25 dollars are worth thousands now. Farrow himself committed suicide!
Reply:If you drilled holes in that i would name it "holy sh!t".GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:This piece in particular makes me question the effect that an artist's death or suicide has on the value of their work, but markets can be funny things.
