I was on my way over to Harbor Freight to buy a bandsaw kit (It is a kit to me if I have to rebuild it to make it work right) since I really did not want to invest a large amount right now. I stopped by a local machine rebuilder on the way and asked what he had. He points me to a Grob Brothers 14" verticle and a Wellsaw model 600 horizontal that he just took on trade and tells me I can have both for $700 delivered (he is a mile from my shop) I make the deal and when they get the shop I find the plates and call Grob with the model and serial they go back through their records and tell me this saw was built in 1939. The next day they called and they sent me all the original drawings and a free set of saw guides to boot. I told them i want to restore it and he also included his paint contact for the original paint as well. Incredeble customer service! I put new blades on both and they both work great, the Wellsaw will cut a 7" tube no problem. I think I got a great buy on 2 nice old machines that still work great and should serve me for many years to come.Mike

Reply:I'm looking for a few of those. They pop up every now and then. My buddy just bought a big Vertical one-phase, only $600. You scored a good deal!John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Very cool..The older machinery is the better machinery..Thats the reason why they are still around today..I'll bet 100$ a "Jet" or some other half a$$ed saw or any new "machinery" now for that matter will be around in 100 yrs.. The shop I'm at is filled with old stuff..And it all still works and works just fine.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Nice find FT- I would much prefer to buy older machinery wherever possible.  Back then, they made stuff out of "real" cast iron and not cheap "compressed sand".I scored an old Oliver lathe some years back from a used machinery dealer (he had 3 of them).  I figured it would need bearings and some general rebuilding and painting, but when I torn it apart, all that needed was to wash out the old bearings and lube it back up.  The bed ways had to be dressed a bit for surface rust and I did paint it and put a new Baldor motor on it. These things were used in High School machine shops and had a thousand inexperienced hands on them. It weighs over 500 pounds and now will probably last another 50 years or more for the price of a new Jet. Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene
Reply:Ah, yes, but you're going to miss the horrible rattle of the sheet metal stand.Plus I bet you didn't get the special 1.5 hp motor that somehow only weighs about half a pound. Congrats on your score, sounds like a great deal.- John (horrible freight bandsaw owner)

Reply:I had to use my Hi-Lo to move the verticle saw it is 1 big casting (iron) from top to bottom. I highly doubt many machines sold new today will still function as well as this one does now in 2075 when they are the same age.  To say I am happy is an understatementMike
Reply:To quote a standard response from another tool-orientated forum site when someone scores some good tools/machinery/etc:You s#@k!Lucky dog.  Congrats on the heavy metal.
